Avatar – reported budget of $500,000,000

The New York Times has reported that Avatar has a budget of up to $500,000,000! That is a CRAZY amount of money to spend on a film, the film would have to be a massive hit to make it’s money back. Personally I think the film will open how Titanic did in the Box Office (which took in more than $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office) slowly then pick up momentum after word of mouth spreads. The US domestic ticket sales of only 5 films this year have reached over $250 million to put things into perspective.  I still think it can do it as someone who has had the privilege of a “sneak peek” the movie, I must say that the TV and your PC screen does not do it any justice. On the big screen, the visuals look amazing, they look as good as everything the hype machine has said, on a 3D on a 60 foot screen, the visuals look jaw-droppingly realistic. The worst case scenario is that we get a beautiful looking film where human soldiers are portrayed as one-dimensional evil invaders of a beautiful alien world, except for the one soldier (Sam Worthington) who as the film goes begins to like the Blue Aliens and falls in love with a Blue Alien and saves the day -I really hope there is more to it than that!
