Spiderman 4 Scrapped. Spiderman Reboot Expected 2012

To be honest I could see this coming a mile off, after all the stalling with Spiderman 4 and the fact that Director Sam Raimi reportedly HATED the screenplay and all the studio intervention with Spiderman 3. News has come out that Sony have scrapped Spiderman 4 due to all the script and scheduling concerns. Sony Pictures have now decided to reboot the character completely with a new cast and new director. The new script has reportedly already been written, this doesn’t look good for Sony, they look like a bunch of suits who just want complete control over everything, and considering the huge success of the series financially I don’t completely understand this. Below is an excerpt of a press release Sony have sent out:
Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spiderman hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.
I’m not too mad about this, I was never a big fan of the Spiderman movies, I thought 1 & 2 were OK but I really did think Spiderman 3 was steaming pile of sh*t! I never really liked Tobey Maguire as Spiderman either. I do think Sam Raimi is a GREAT director though, I really loved Drag Me To Hell and hopefully he can get his long talked about World Of Warcraft Movie off the ground, I’d much rather see that than Spiderman 4. In response to the news Sam Raimi has said
Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” said Sam Raimi.
