Alice In Wonderland London Press Conference Interview

aliceinwonderland poster1 Alice In Wonderland London Press Conference Interview

I’m not gonna lie the Alice In Wonderland London Press Conference was full of really REALLY weird and random questions, they were actually quite embarrassing, I think some Film journalists should be sent to the loony bin, they were truly mad for example ‘Tim Burton what’s the difference between Underland and Wonderland’ or something like that and ‘Johnny Depp would you wear a blue suit like in Avatar’………….strong WTF!!!! Alice In Wonderland is in cinemas (including Odeon cinemas :) ) March 4th.

From Walt Disney Pictures and visionary director Tim Burton comes an epic 3D fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland, a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen’s reign of terror

Cast: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Marton Csokas, Tim Pigott-Smith, Lindsay Duncan, Geraldine James, Leo Bill, Jemma Powell, Mairi Ella Challen and Mia Wasikowska as Alice

Voice Cast: Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Christopher Lee, Paul Whitehouse, Barbara Windsor

What was it like playing Alice? As such an iconic character did that add any pressure?

Mia Wasikowska: There’s a certain amount of pressure when you’re playing a character and very well known and loved by some many people. But we discussed that from the beginning and one of the things we wanted to do was take away that baggage that comes with being Alice In Wonderland and get behind the teenage girl behind the iconic image.

What attracted to you making the film?

Tim Burton: What really intrigued me was the opportunity to make a 3D Alice in Wonderland. It seemed like a proper mix of the medium and the material. A few years ago, I don’t know if I’d have been intrigued by it, but it just seemed like the trippyness of the world and the tool of 3D seemed like a good mix. And also going back, there’s about twenty different versions and I’d never really connected to them, but the characters and imagery and the iconic way it has infiltrated culture was just so strong. I just felt like it was an interesting great challenge.

johnny depp tim burton Alice In Wonderland London Press Conference Interview

What do your kids make of the film?

Johnny Depp: My kids actually saw the film cos I haven’t, I sent them out on the front lines (laughs). They loved it, completely adored it. They went crazy, quoting things from it and loving all the characters, they weren’t freaked out by it at all.

You and Tim have a great body of work together, what’s it like working with him?

I’ve always admired Tim for his commitment to his vision and the impossibility of compromise and for doing exactly what he wanted and when he wanted in his own way.

We’d met 20 years or so ago for Edward Scissorhands, the fact that Tim cast me was a miracle, it was total luck that he decided to cast me in that film. The one thing I will say is that as you’ve known someone for that length of time you do get close. In terms of the process, in terms of the work it really hasn’t changed for one second since Edward Scissorhands. One thing that has evolved for the both of us is when grown men start changing nappies you discuss it (laughs). Having kids and that kind of thing, one thing is proud to say is I’m the first person to give Tim the full DVD set of The Wiggles. Also they used to call me box office poison, which I was kinda ok with, it didn’t bother me at all, then suddenly Pirates happened, now Tim doesn’t have to fight with studios to give me the gig any more, which he had to prior too, it just happens.

A Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Trailer

nightmare on elm street remake A Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Trailer

I’ve made it no secret my dislike for this and most remakes in general, I think some things shouldn’t be touched. If your REALLY a fan of the original you wouldn’t remake it, maybe do a prequel or another film in the series but not just remake it with the same name, it just looks like a quick cash in, also to point out Michael bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes are the ones producing this so you can take from that what you want, they’ve remade The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, The Hitcher and Friday The 13th so far, with The Birds, Rosemary’s Baby and I’m sure any iconic horror film to cash in from lined up in the future.

On a positive note the trailer is actually pretty good, as was the poster I posted a few days ago. I also like the fact that Freddy is actually meant to be scary like he was in the original, the last few films in the Freddy series made him too wacky and comedic for me. I’ve got a feeling Jackie Earle Haley will be the only redeeming factor in this film.

The Losers TV Spot. Starring Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba….

the losers still The Losers TV Spot. Starring Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba....

I really like the looks of this, I was very impressed and surprised by the trailer, I’ve always liked a good light hearted, stylised action film that doesn’t take itself to seriously. It does look a bit like an updated version of the A Team but for me I was far more impressed by The Losers trailer than The A Team trailer. This TV Spot just adds to my interest. It looks very comic bookish if that’s a word, I like that :)

An explosive tale of double cross and revenge, “The Losers” centers upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission.  The team—Clay (Morgan), Jensen (Evans), Roque (Elba), Pooch (Short) and Cougar (Jaenada)—find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max (Patric).  Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they’re joined by the mysterious Aisha (Saldana), a beautiful operative with her own agenda.  Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war. Losers is directed by Sylvain White and stars Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Idris Elba and Columbus Short.

The Karate Kid Trailer 2

the karate kid remake The Karate Kid Trailer 2

I’m not gonna lie I hate the idea of this film, they really should call it The Kung Fu kid, they might as well call it The Jujitsu Kid or The Tae Kwon Doe Kid they’re just using the name ‘The Karate Kid’ to capitalise. On a more positive note it looks a lot better than some of these recent crappy kids movies, the trailer is pretty decent but as I’ve seen time and time again, especially with kids movies a good trailer does not necessarily mean a good movie, we’ll have to see.

My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

sean connery red october My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Sean Connery in The Hunt For Red October and The Untouchables

In both two films he’s meant to be Russian (The Hunt For Red October) and Irish (The Untouchables) both times he butchers the accent by soundly convincingly Scottish, he actually sounds like a stereotypical Scotsman, a bagpipe playing, haggis eating, thistle loving, kilt wearing, Porridge eating Highlander. Note to casting agents never ever cast Sean Connery as anything other than Scottish he just sounds stupid, very stupid. On the topic of Irish accents Tom Cruise in Far and Away was equally bad as was Julia Roberts in one of her sh*t films when she played an Irish women, I can’t remember the name 90% of her films blur into one for me.

don cheadle oceans My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Don Cheadle in Oceans 11, 12 & 13

When I came up with this list, this was the first accent that came to my mind, wtf was he thinking, I really like Don Cheadle as well, out of a number of sh*tty cockney accents he takes the biscuit, you couldn’t even try to sound as bad as he did. It was so bad someone should have said Don you sound like a prat, move to Mile End for a few weeks and pick up the accent. ‘Old on to yer knickers’ he was an inadvertent comedy genius in those three films. Johnny Depp’s and Heather Graham’s cockney accents in From Hell were bad but they were nothing compared to Cheadles.

robin hood costner My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves

To be fair to Kevin Costner I don’t think he even tried to put on an English accent let alone a Nottingham accent when playing Robin Hood. He’s only my list for continually pronouncing Nottingham as Noddingham, straight fail. It was so bad I wanted Robin Hood to die.

tommy lee jones blown away My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Tommy Lee Jones in Blown Away

As an Irishman the varying accent is dear to my heart, many actors have butchered it, but no one has butchered it to the extent of Tommy Lee Jones in Blown Away. He just sounds like he had his teeth pulled out.

peter kobayashi My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Pete Postlethwaite in The Usual Suspects

I just want to put it out there that I think Pete Postlethwaite is a great actor, but for this film I dunno what he was doing, I can’t even put my finger on what accent he was meant to be portraying, it’s a modern mystery, was he Indian, Russian, Croatian, Martian no one knows.

richard gere jackal My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Richard Gere in The Jackal

Another crap Irish accent, to be honest I’ve never really liked Richard Gere he seems too smug, the fact he knows he’s got everyone under 30’s mother on lock-down he just exudes the real definition of motherf*cker. I know he does a lot of charity work and has done a lot for the Buddhist monks so I feel slightly bad for disliking him, yet whenever I feel too bad for disliking him I go back and watch The Jackal which justifies it again.

06 wd1109 Bram Stoker Dracula My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker’s Dracula

This isn’t surprising to be fair, Keanu Reeves doesn’t really act, he’s good at being completely emotionless and that’s about it, in fact he should just play an emotionless mute from now on. His role in Bram Strokers Dracula was his highest achievement in fail-hood. When I die and hopefully, if God’s got a sense of humour go to heaven I will want to know a few mystery’s for example are there intelligent beings outside of our planet, what’s in Area 51, how were the Pyramids built and most importantly why does Keanu Reeves keep getting cast in films.

natalie portman v for vendetta My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Natalie Portman in V For Vendetta

Every man in the world has a thing for Natalie Portman, for me that was almost crushed by her accent in V For Vendetta, she should be banned from England forever unless it’s to see me.

dick van dyke mary poppins My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins

This is the Grandad of bad accents, I’ve probably seen Mary Poppins a load of times when I was younger but I couldn’t actually remember the accent, my Mum swore to me it was really bad, she’s the most un-judgemental person I know so I took her word on it, I had a quick search on Youtube for it and god damn is it bad, real bad!

angelina jolie alexander My Top 10 Worst Accents In Film

Angelina Jolie in Alexander

I almost forgave her due to the fact that she looked so good in the film. Even her supreme beauty couldn’t cover up her sh*tty accent though, it’s actually indescribable.

Honourable mentions

Michael Myers as Shrek

Ray winstone in The Departed

Cate Blanchett in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull

Brad Pitt in Seven Years In Tibet

Jason Stratham in The Transporter

Gerard Butler in PS I Love You

Forrest Whitaker in The Crying Game

New Nightmare On Elm Street Poster

nightmareelmstreet finalposter New Nightmare On Elm Street Poster

I’m not a fan of reboots and remakes, it seems like Hollywood has run out of ideas, especially with horror films it’s getting silly now. I have to say though this poster looks great, it looks very creepy, I’m gonna check out the film just for the fact that I’m big a horror fan, hopefully it isn’t a giant steaming pile of sh*t. Look out for a trailer on Thursday.

Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape. Donning Freddy’s trademark fedora, red-and-green striped sweater, and four-bladed glove is Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”).

Baftas Winners List And My Opinions

carey mulligan baftas Baftas Winners List And My Opinions

The Hurt Locker was the big winner of the night bringing home 6 Baftas including two of the big ones – Best Film and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow. I’m extremely happy Colin Firth, Duncan Jones and Carey Mulligan each won awards which they each thoroughly deserved, I never thought I’d say that about Colin Firth to be honest, I thought he’d be forever stuck in my mind as the guy all my Aunties fancied and a ‘regular romantic comedy guy’. I was in agreement with most of the winners on the night, the only one that stood out for me was the Orange Rising Star award, I think that being a public vote with all the hardcore Twilight fans gave Kristen Stewart a huge advantage, she is talented but I’d rather have seen Tahar Rahim or Carey Mulligan win, in Twilight she’s predominantly moping around for 2 hours.

One thing the Baftas reminded me of was how sh*tty the British press is, I’ve seen so many headlines along the lines of ‘Baftas snub Avatar’, acknowledging nothing else about the whole ceremony. First off how do they snub a film that won two awards? Just because a film makes $2 Billion it doesn’t necessarily mean that that film is the ‘best’ film, if all awards were awarded to what made the most money that would mean McDonalds make the nicest food in the world. Just to clarify I think Avatar is a great film and was my favourite cinematic experience of the year, my p*ssedoffness (I know it’s not a word) is with the British press and not with Avatar.

New Kick Ass Red Band Trailer

kick ass quad New Kick Ass Red Band Trailer

A new Red Band Trailer for Kick Ass has been released online, it’s safe to say from watching it I’m sold, it wasn’t much of a doubt from watching the other trailers and clips but this has just cemented it further. The film looks completely nuts!

Kick Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps International Trailer

Wall Street 2 Money Never Sleeps Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps International Trailer

The timing for this film couldn’t have been better with the current economic climate. I’m definitely looking forward to this, a sequel that is needed not just a quick ca$h in! This trailer is a lot better than the teaser trailer, it gives a bit too much away for me but that’s nit picking. I’m amped for this Josh Brolin and especially Michael Douglas look great and to be fair so does Shia Labeouf, who up until now I haven’t been fully convinced by.

Michael Douglas returns as Gordon Gekko, a role which earned him an Academy Award. The film is set nearly two decades after the first film, with Gekko, having spent 14-years in prison for insider trading and security fraud, now making the lecture circuit as a published financial author. He mentors a young Wall Street broker named Jacob (Shia LaBeouf) in hopes to reconnect with his daughter Winnie, Jacob’s wife (Carrey Mulligan). The film is directed by Oliver Stone and also features Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon, and Josh Brolin. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is scheduled to hit theaters on April 23rd 2010.

hurt locker oscar My 2010 Oscar Predictions and Competition

I’m useless at predictions, below is more of a ‘I hope they win list’ than actual predictions. I haven’t accepted the fact that Sandra Bullock will more than likely win the Best Actress Oscar so I’ve gone with Carey Mulligan, due to me believing she deserves it and also for the fact that Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep seem get automatic nominations every year, which kinda pisses me off, they are GREAT actresses but jeez!
