Baftas Winners List And My Opinions
The Hurt Locker was the big winner of the night bringing home 6 Baftas including two of the big ones – Best Film and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow. I’m extremely happy Colin Firth, Duncan Jones and Carey Mulligan each won awards which they each thoroughly deserved, I never thought I’d say that about Colin Firth to be honest, I thought he’d be forever stuck in my mind as the guy all my Aunties fancied and a ‘regular romantic comedy guy’. I was in agreement with most of the winners on the night, the only one that stood out for me was the Orange Rising Star award, I think that being a public vote with all the hardcore Twilight fans gave Kristen Stewart a huge advantage, she is talented but I’d rather have seen Tahar Rahim or Carey Mulligan win, in Twilight she’s predominantly moping around for 2 hours.
One thing the Baftas reminded me of was how sh*tty the British press is, I’ve seen so many headlines along the lines of ‘Baftas snub Avatar’, acknowledging nothing else about the whole ceremony. First off how do they snub a film that won two awards? Just because a film makes $2 Billion it doesn’t necessarily mean that that film is the ‘best’ film, if all awards were awarded to what made the most money that would mean McDonalds make the nicest food in the world. Just to clarify I think Avatar is a great film and was my favourite cinematic experience of the year, my p*ssedoffness (I know it’s not a word) is with the British press and not with Avatar.
