First Images From Immortals With Mickey Rourke, Henry Cavill & Freida Pinto
These three pictures from Tarsem Singh’s upcoming film Immortals cover three essential themes of any sword and sandal film, a muscular hero – Henry Cavill as Theseus, a beautiful heroin – Freida Pinto as Phaedra and finally a menacing villain with a couple scars on his face – Mickey Rourke looking as ragged as ever as King Hyperion. I’m easily taken in by sword and sandal epics, especially those with a couple actors I really like – Mickey Rourke, John Hurt. Happily after his Oscar nomination for The Wrestler (which he was robbed of winning) Mickey Rourke’s comeback trail doesn’t look like it’s stopping any time soon, he’s also got Tony Scott’s Potsdamer Platz , Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables and Passion Play in cinemas the next year or so.
With Clash Of The Titans and Percy Jackson the Greek God’s must have been twisting their long white beards in disgust with 2010′s films based around Greek mythology, from the looks of it Immortals seems to be a hell of a lot better than those two films, the story follows a young warrior Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Pinto will portray Phaedra, an oracle priestess who must join Theseus — played by Henry Cavill (”The Tudors”) — on his quest to prevent the cataclysmic war from erupting. Immortals is set for release November the 11th, 2011. Via iamrogue.
