Gore Verbinski Officially Directing ‘The Lone Ranger’ – Reteaming With Johnny Depp For The Fifth Time

Deadline have confirmed that Gore Verbinski will helm ‘The Lone Ranger’ for Walt Disney Pictures, reuniting the director with Johnny Depp (who’ll portray Tonto) for their fifth film together. ‘The Lone Ranger’ is a big screen adaptation of the classic radio and TV program which followed a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West, who galloped around righting wrongs with his Native American sidekick Tonto.
Depp and Verbinski previously worked together on the hugely successful Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy, and on the upcoming animated flick Rango – which looks completely bonkers but at the same time full of charm!
Disney announced back in September 2008 that Johnny Depp will portray Tonto. No word on who will be playing The Lone Ranger as of yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. More news on this project coming soonish. Hi-yo, Silver, away!
