We are incredibly saddened by the news that actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away due to complications from pneumonia at age 84. In an interview with Canadian radio station CJOB 68, Nielson’s nephew Doug Nielsen revealed the news that he had spent the last twelve days in a Ft. Lauderdale hospital due to a severe case of pneumonia, the infection was “just too much and at 5.30, with his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away.”

Nielsen began his on-screen career in the 1950s, he first rose to prominence as a dramatic actor amassing an impressive filmography which included notable roles in such films as 1956 sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet and 1972’s The Poseidon Adventure. To a wider audience he is most likely best remembered and loved as Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun franchise. Nielsen’s hilarious deadpan delivery as a doctor in 1980’s Airplane! marked a turning point in his career in which he started appearing in more and more comedic roles, notably The Naked Gun Series, the TV series Police Squad, the Scary Movie series, Mr Magoo and most recently in Superhero Movie.

RIP Mr. Nielsen and condolences to his family. He was truly a comedy legend.
