attack the block Joe Cornish’s Sci Fi/Comedy Attack the Block Wins SXSW Audience Award

SXSW have announced that Joe Cornish’s south London set, alien invasion flick ‘Attack the Block’ is the winner of this year’s Audience Award in the Midnight/SX Fantastic category at the 2011 festival. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this film, I was REALLY digging the trailer, it looks like a tonne of fun. ‘Attack The Block’ follows a group of teens who protect their estate from an onslaught of invading aliens. The five newcomers who play the hooded heroes are John Boyega, Simon Howard, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, and Alex Esmail. Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway and Nick Frost also star. The film is set to hit cinemas May 11th – I’m there! If you missed the trailer I’ve posted it for your viewing pleasure below.

Attack the Block’ is a fast, funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters. It turns a London housing estate into a sci-fi playground. A tower block into a fortress under siege. And teenage street kids into heroes. It’s inner city versus outer space.
