Deadline bring word that Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood, Body of Lies, Balibo) has landed the major role of “Number 3,” another brainwashed assassin in Universal’s ‘The Bourne Legacy’ opposite Jeremy Renner. Isaac previously tested for the role that went to Renner, he was said to be one of director Tony Gilroy’s favorites for the lead. Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton are reportedly in final negotiations to join the film.

Writer/Director Tony Gilroy wrote the previous three Bourne movies along with ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ and ‘Michael Clayton’ (which he also directed) – each thoroughly thumbs up worthy movies. Also to point out while the film shares a title with the book ‘The Bourne Legacy’ by Eric Van Lustbader – the first book in the series after original writer Robert Ludlum’s death – Gilroy says it’s a stand alone script that does not follow the same plot. The film will feature a whole new hero (Jeremy Renner) in the same universe as the first three Bourne films, though the character of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) will be absent. Expect concrete casting news in the coming weeks as the film shoots shortly. ‘The Bourne Legacy’ comes to cinemas August 3rd, 2012.
