Hot on the heals of his swaggering supervillain performance in ‘X-Men: First Class,’ Variety report that Kevin Bacon is in final negotiations to play the villain opposite Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in director Robert Schwentke’s (Red) adaptation of the Dark Horse comic series R.I.P.D. The initialism stands for “Rest in Peace Department.” The story follows a cop killed in the line of duty who is recruited by a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department. He then tries to find the man who murdered him.

R.I.P.D. hits cinemas June 28th, 2013. Bridges will play Roy Powell, a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years.  Reynolds will play Powell’s partner, Nick Cruz, the recently murdered cop who’s out for revenge. Check out the synopsis for the comic here: Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!
