Variety reveal that Rob Kazinsky has joined Guillermo del Toro’s hugely anticipated sci-fi adventure flick ’Pacific Rim,’ while Willem Dafoe is in early talks to play the part of a rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures. The two actors would join Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Max Martini in del Toro’s spin on the Japanese Kaiju genre (giant monsters). It’s good to see Kazinsky back in a tentpole movie after he had to drop out of ‘The Hobbit’ in April for personal reasons.

Travis Beacham’s script is set in 2025, the 12th year of a war against giant malevolent alien creatures who reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. Idris Elba will be playing the lead role of Sensi – which was originally developed for Tom Cruise. ’Pacific Rim’ has already entered pre-production and is set to start principal photography in September. ‘Pacific Rim’ is lined up for a July 12th, 2013 berth.
