MTV Video Music Awards ‘The Hunger Games’ Teaser Trailer
After premiering earlier during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, this first glimpse of ‘The Hunger Games’ has found its way online for your viewing pleasure. The film stars Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each by lottery to compete to the death in gladiator-like spectacles, the Hunger Games. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. The cast also includes Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones and Stanley Tucci. ’The Hunger Games’ is currently scheduled for a March 23rd, 2012 release.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once existed, THE HUNGER GAMES follows the quest of “Tributes” – one teenage boy and girl chosen from each of the country’s twelve districts – as they compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for the Hunger Games their entire lives, the main character, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson). If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Lionsgate will release the film on March 23, 2012.
