Anne Hathaway Joins Russell Crowe & Hugh Jackman In Tom Hooper’s ‘Les Misérables’

Universal Pictures has announced that Anne Hathaway has joined Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) live-action adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel and the stage musical ‘Les Miserables.’ Hathaway will play the role of Fantine opposite Russell Crowe as the misguided Javert, and Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean. ‘Les Misérables’ is scheduled for release December 7th, 2012.
William Nicholson (Gladiator) has written the screenplay. Sir Cameron Mackintosh will produce alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Debra Hayward for Working Title. Vice President of Production Erik Baiers is overseeing for Universal with Director of Development Maradith Frenkel. The music is by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil. December 2012 is already stacked with a number of eagerly anticipated films in Ang Lee’s ‘Life Of Pi,’ Quentin Tarantino‘s ‘Django Unchained,’ ‘World War Z,’ ‘The Great Gatsby’ and Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.’
