Deadline bring word that Eddie Redmayne has joined the cast of Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) live-action adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel and the stage musical ‘Les Miserables.’ Redmayne will star as Marius opposite Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, and Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean. ‘Les Misérables’ is scheduled for release December 7th 2012. Redmayne’s certainly an actor on the rise, his performance opposite Michelle Williams in the upcoming ‘My Week With Marilyn’ has been met with much critical acclaim.

December 2012 is already stacked with a number of eagerly anticipated films in Ang Lee’s ‘Life Of Pi,’ Quentin Tarantino‘s ‘Django Unchained,’ ‘World War Z,’ ‘The Great Gatsby’ and Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.’ William Nicholson (Gladiator) has written the screenplay for ‘Les Misérables.’ Sir Cameron Mackintosh will produce alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Debra Hayward for Working Title.
