In a recent chinwag with Wired, Guillermo Del Toro shed some light on his upcoming sci-fi adventure flick ‘Pacific Rim.’ The filmmaker revealed that filming will begin next Monday: “We are working with actors that I absolutely adore,Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc.”

Travis Beacham’s script is set in 2025, the 12th year of a war against giant malevolent alien creatures who reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. Idris Elba will be playing the lead role of Sensi – which was originally developed for Tom Cruise. ‘Pacific Rim’ is lined up for a July 12th 2013 release date. The film is set to star star Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Willem Dafoe, Ron Perlman and Max Martini.
