007.com has confirmed that composer Thomas Newman will be scoring the upcoming James Bond flick, ‘Skyfall,’ for director Sam Mendes. Newman has scored four of Mendes’ other films: ‘American Beauty’ (1999), ‘Road to Perdition’ (2002) [which also starred Daniel Craig], ‘Jarhead’ (2005) and ‘Revolutionary Road’ (2008). Regular Bond composer David Arnold, who has scored the series since ‘Tomorrow Never Dies,’ is unavailable as he is the music director for the 2012 London Olympics.
‘Skyfall’ will see Daniel Craig and Judi Dench continue their roles. The cast also includes Naomie Harris as a field agent named Eve, Javier Bardem as the lead villain, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, French actress Bérénice Marlohe as “a glamous enigmatic character,” and Ralph Fiennes, who’s role has been described as “darkly complex.”
I’ve got high hopes for ‘Skyfall,’ I’m a huge fan of Daniel Craig’s incarnation of James Bond. This latest chapter is being shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, Scotland, Whitehall in London, Shanghai and Istanbul. The screenplay is written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. ‘Skyfall’ will begin its worldwide roll-out in the UK and Ireland on October 26th and in North America on November 9th. The Director of Photography is Roger Deakins, a nine-time Oscar nominee who previously shot the films ‘Jarhead’ and ‘Revolutionary Road’ for Mendes.
