New Look At Jennifer Lawrence As Katniss & Lenny Kravitz As Cinna In ‘The Hunger Games’
Providing us with a new look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Rolling Stone has premiered this image from the upcoming movie adaptation of Suzanne Colin’s best-selling novel, ‘The Hunger Games,’ to accompany an interview with Kravitz. Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence headlines the film as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, a boy and girl are chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts to fight each by lottery to compete to the death in gladiator-like spectacles, the Hunger Games. Katniss is from one of the poorest districts, but she is skilled in archery and hunting, which makes her a fierce competitor. Alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Lenny Kravitz, the cast also includes Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Amandia Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones and Stanley Tucci. ’The Hunger Games’ is scheduled for a March 23rd release.
In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.
‘The Hunger Games’ is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following. The film pairs Oscar® nominee Jennifer Lawrence (WINTER’S BONE, X-MEN FIRST CLASS) with Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT) and Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG) in the key young adult roles. Rounding out the cast is a who’s who of acclaimed adult actors: Oscar® nominee Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Oscar® nominee Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley and Toby Jones.
