Michael Fassbender Counselor 20121 Michael Fassbender Officially Joins Ridley Scotts Cormac McCarthy Scripted The Counselor

Following news that Michael Fassbender was linked to Ridley Scott’s ‘The Counselor’ a few weeks back, Deadline now bring word that Fassbender has officially committed to star. The screenplay for the film comes from one of my favourite authors, Cormac McCarthy, whose critically acclaimed books have been adapted into ‘No Country for Old Men, ‘The Road,’ and ‘All The Pretty Horses.’ ‘The Councelor’ is the Pulitzer Prize-winning authors first screenplay. Insiders are describing it as “No Country For Old Men on steroids.” While details are sparse, the story is said to follow a lawyer who gets embroiled in the drug trade, and ends up fighting for his life. Reports point towards the likes of Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, and Brad Pitt linked to the villain role.

Ridley Scott is apparently eyeing a May 1st start date for ‘The Counseler. Producer Steve Schwartz has said the following about the ‘The Counselor’: “Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.”

Over the last twelve months, Michael Fassbender has had a string of outstanding performances in Cary Fukunaga’s ’Jane Eyre,’ Matthew Vaughn’s ‘X-Men: First Class,’ David Cronenberg’s ‘A Dangerous Method,’ Steve McQueen’s ‘Shame,’ and Steven Soderberg’s ‘Haywire.’ Thankfully for us movie lovers Fassbender’s upcoming slate is looking equally impressive, with his upcoming role in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/action flick ‘Prometheus’ this summer. Re-teaming with his ‘Shame’ and ‘Hunger’ director Steve McQueen on the adaptation of Solomon Northrup’s autobiography ‘12 Years A Slave.’ Reprising his role as Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to ‘X-Men: First Class.’ And then finally is passion project based around legendary Celtic warrior Cu Chulainn. With a number of enticing projects in the pipeline, it looks like more great things are ahead for Fassbender.
