Edgar Wright Teams Up With Johnny Depp For ‘The Night Stalker’
Deadline report that the thoroughly awesome filmmaker Edgar Wright is set to direct Walt Disney Pictures’ big-screen adaptation of ‘The Night Stalker.’ The film would be remake of the TV Movie, and subsequent series that the studio is developing as a potential star vehicle for Johnny Depp. Depp would play the intrepid tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak, who covered crime for a tabloid. His cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. The subject matter will be tailored to fit Disney’s family film mandate and likely a PG-13 rating, however the idea of Wright’s hyper-reality style and Depp’s gift for constructing quirky characters sounds like an exciting match to me.
Edgar Wright comes aboard this project before the studio has set a writer, and he will oversee and shape the project with Johnny Depp and producer Christi Dembrowski. Wright is also currently working on a screenplay for the final installment in his “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” ’The World’s End,’ with collaborator Simon Pegg, and an ‘Ant-Man’ movie for Marvel Studios. There’s currently no word on which project we’ll see on the big-screen first. Wright is the man behind three personal favourites of mine in ‘Shaun of the Dead, ‘Hot Fuzz,’ and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.’ Anything that has “Edgar Wright” attached to it = ticket automatically bought.
