Hot on the heals of last weeks announcement that Sharlto Copley has joined Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning in Walt Disney Pictures’ ‘Maleficent,’ The Hollywood Reporter bring word that five more actors have been cast in the live action re-telling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. The five are Imelda Staunton, Kenneth Cranham, Lesley Manville, Miranda Richardson, and Sam Riley, each top-notch actors in their own right.

‘Maleficent’ is lead by Angelina Jolie in the title role of Disney’s notorious evil queen. Elle Fanning is on board as Aurora, and Sharlto Copley is Stefan, the half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the human king. Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville are playing Knotgrass and Flittle, respectively, two of the three pixies who end up taking care of Aurora. Miranda Richardson will play Queen Ulla, a fairy queen who is Maleficent’s aunt – and dislikes her niece. Kenneth Cranham will play the human king who plots to conquer the fairy kingdom. Sam Riley takes the role of Diaval, a raven who changes into human form and is Maleficent’s right hand.

Set for release March 14th, 2014, the film explores the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney’s animated classic ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ Academy Award-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (Avatar, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and Oz The Great and Powerful) will direct with a script by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Alice in Wonderland).
