The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Summit Entertainment are in negotiations with Anthony Hopkins to join the cast of ‘RED 2,’ the sequel to the 2010 action-comedy ‘RED.’ If a deal goes through, Hopkins will play a genius scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum. Summit have confirmed that Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Mary-Louise Parker will be reprising their roles from the the original ‘RED’ (Retired. Extremely Dangerous.), while Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee join the sequel.

‘RED 2′ is being directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) from a screenplay by Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the script for the first installment, based in turn on a comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer. ’RED 2′ brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe. The film is scheduled to be released on August 2nd, 2013. Erik Feig, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, had the following say about the sequel: “We had so much fun making RED and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year.  We can’t wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they ‘still got it.’”
