This stunning collection of “first look” artwork has landed online for Guillermo Del Toro’s (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) 3D stop-motion animated adaptation of ‘Pinocchio.’ Del Toro is set to co-direct the film with Mark Gustafson, who was the Animation Director on ‘The Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ With a story by Del Toro, his frequent collaborator Matthew Robbins, and Gris Grimly, the yet-to-be-titled Pinocchio film is a retelling of one of the world’s best-loved tales. The puppet Pinocchio embarks on a series of extraordinary and thrilling adventures, proving himself to be as indestructible as his love for his father. Described as a gothic, dark adaptation of the famous Carlo Collodi fairy tale, the year-long filming process on ‘Pinocchio’ is likely to begin next summer, possibly in time for a 2014 release. ‘Pinocchio’ will be Del Toro’s first time directing an animated feature, although he’s worked with DreamWorks Animation as a creative consultant on ‘Megamind,’ and as an executive producer on ‘Puss in Boots,’ ‘Kung Fu Panda 2,’ and the forthcoming ‘Rise of the Guardians.’

Guillermo Del Toro has a number of tantalising projects lined up. He’s set to direct an adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ for Warner Bros, with Emma Watson set to star as Belle. He is also currently in post-production for his sci-fi adventure flick ’Pacific Rim.’ Pencilled in for a July 12th, 2013 release, ’Pacific Rim’ is set in 2025, the 12th year of a war against giant malevolent alien creatures who reside in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. ’Pacific Rim’ stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky, Willem Dafoe, Ron Perlman and Max Martini. The likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Waits and Christopher Walken have been linked to ‘Pinocchio.’ Source: EW via Dread Central.
