Marvel Confirm ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Thor: The Dark World’ & ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Titles
After much speculation, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Fiege has finally confirmed that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is in fact Marvel’s mysterious “Untitled Movie” that had been scheduled for a August 1st, 2014 release date. Making the announcement at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel, Fiege also went onto to announce the official titles for the ‘Thor’ and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ sequels as ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ while Edgar Wright showed off test footage for his in-development ‘Ant-Man’ movie (I heard it looked awesome). ‘Thor: The Dark World’ is set to be released November 8th, 2013, while ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ is pencilled in for a April 4th, 2014 release date. The Captain America sequel will pick-up where Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ left off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The team for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will include Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Racoon and Gamorra.
In ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman will reprise their roles from the first film, while Zack Levi is confirmed to play Fandril. Alan Taylor, an accomplished TV director whose credits include ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Mad Men,’ ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Nurse Jackie,’ takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first ‘Thor’ film. Don Payne, who co-wrote the first film, penned the original draft with Robert Rodat doing the most recent polish.
In related news, Kevin Fiege also confirmed that Ben Kingsley is playing the supervillain, The Mandarin, in ‘Iron Man 3.’ The third installment in the hit ‘Iron Man’ series, which has earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, returns Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Marvel’s The Avengers) as the iconic Super Hero character Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Gwyneth Paltrow (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2) as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) as Happy Hogan. The likes of Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Guy Pearce are all linked to roles in the film. ‘Iron Man’ arrives in cinemas May 3th, 2013.
