Variety have got their mitts on this first official image of Forest Whitaker as Eugene Allen in Lee Daniels’ (Precious) ‘The Butler.’ Danny Strong wrote the script with Daniels based on Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about Allen, “A Butler Well Served by This Election.” Allen started at the White House as a “pantry man” in 1952, when blacks weren’t allowed to use public restrooms in his native Virginia. He ended up serving eight presidents and had a unique front-row seat as political and racial history was made, from the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.

Forest Whitaker is joined in the film by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Alex Pettyfer, David Oyelowo, Liam Neeson, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Robin Williams, James Marsden, Aml Ameen, Nelsan Ellis, Yaya DaCosta, Terrance Howard, Vanessa Redgrave, Minka Kelly, Lenny Kravitz and Liev Schreiber. ‘The Butler’ will be produced by Lee Daniels with Hilary Shor, Cassian Elwes and Pam Williams for Laura Ziskin Productions. The music for the film is being composed by Quincy Jones. ‘The Butler’ is expected to arrive in cinemas sometime in 2013.
