The Weinstein Company has picked up the English-language rights for ‘Snow Piercer,’ a post-apocalyptic drama by writer/director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Mother) and producer Chan wook-Park (Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance). The film is described as ”set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snow Piercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.”

According to reports, ‘Snow Piercer’ will be distributed by The Weinstein Company in North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. While there’s currently no release date set for ‘Snow Piercer,’ sources tell Deadline that a Summer 2013 release looks likely. The film stars Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Chris Evans, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Alison Pill, Ewan Bremner, Octavia Spencer and Song Kangho –  who previously starred in Bong Joon-ho’s equally fantastic ‘The Host’ and ‘Memories Of Murder.’ Marking Bong’s English language debut, the film is based on a French graphic novel titled ‘Le Transperceneige.’ All signs point towards this being a gem!
