Metalblackfae has put together this great fan-made piece of Channing Tatum as the Ragin’ Cajun, Gambit. While the casting of Tatum is still in the works, both X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner and the ’22 Jump Street’ star have seemed pretty optimistic. Earlier this month Tatum said, “Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing [official]. There are only conversations and dreams right now, really… I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation.”

In a separate interview, Lauren Shuler Donner explained why she believes Channing Tatum is such a good fit as Gambit: “He’s a rogue, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he’s got a real good heart – I know him personally…. “He’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

Bryan Singer has confirmed that the next X-Men film, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ will focus primarily on the returning cast members from ’X-Men: First Class,’ which includes Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast, in addition to some younger versions of other mutants like the previously-teased Gambit and Nightcrawler. Gambit’s only big-screen appearance to date was in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ where he was played by Taylor Kitsch. Nightcrawler was played by Alan Cumming in ‘X2.’

I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ shortly, so stay tuned. The character Apocalypse, created by Louise and Walter Simonson, made his debut in X-Factor #6. The world’s first mutant, En Sabah Nur was born in Egypt around 3,000 BC and used advanced technology to make himself an eternal conqueror, believing wholeheartedly in survival of the fittest. ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ opens on May 27th, 2016.
