Ahead of the film’s premier at Sundance next month, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Regency Enterprises have released the first trailer for Rupert Goold’s ‘True Story,’ which is based on the book by Michael Finkel. In the film, when disgraced New York Times reporter Michael Finkel (Jonah Hill) meets accused killer Christian Longo (James Franco) – who has taken on Finkel’s identity – his investigation morphs into a game of cat-and-mouse. Based on actual events, Finkel’s pursuit of Longo’s true story encompasses murder, love, deceit and redemption. Opening on April 10th, 2015, ‘True Story’ co-stars Felicity Jones.
The good people over at The Film Stage have uncovered this first image from Guillermo del Toro’s (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Pacific Rim) ‘Crimson Peak,’ which will hit regular theaters and IMAX on October 16th, 2015. Penned by del Toro and Matthew Robbins, the film stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. The synopsis for ‘Crimson Peak’ is as follows: “In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.”
2 New Images From Marjane Satrapi’s ‘The Voices’ – Starring Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick….
From USA Today comes these two new images from ‘The Voices,’ which is directed by Marjane Satrapi and written by Michael R. Perry. Satrapi previously directed ‘Persepolis,’ based on her best-selling graphic novel, which was nominated for an Academy Award and won the Jury Prize in Cannes. Starring the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick, and Jacki Weaver, ‘The Voices’ marks her first English language film.
‘The Voices’ is a genre-bending film which centers around Jerry, a lovable but disturbed factory worker who yearns for the attention of a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden turn, we follow Jerry’s perspective as his talking pets, a sinister cat and benevolent dog, lead him down a fantastical, murderous path. The film will land on VOD and in theaters on February 6th.
In the wake of Sony’s announcement that their North Korea-set film ‘The Interview’ has been shut down, New Regency and Fox scrapped ‘Pyongyang,’ a North Korea-based project Gore Verbinski planned to direct with Steve Carell. Verbinski has expressed his frustration that his movie was a casualty of the unprecedented hack attack and terrorist threat that caused Sony to cancel the theatrical release of ‘The Interview’ after many major US theater chains refused to show it (which has caused overwhelmingly negative reactions across the web).
Gore Verbinski, who launched the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise and most recently directed ‘The Lone Ranger’ and the Oscar winning ‘Rango,’ issued the following statement to Deadline: Getting the facts straight: Yesterday, I was told by New Regency and Fox that Fox will no longer be distributing the film. Prior to that, the film was green lit and fully funded by New Regency with Fox distributing. I have been told in no uncertain words that based on the situation at Sony, Fox has now decided to not distribute the film. Without a distributor, New Regency was forced to shut the film down.
Ahead of the film’s January 8th release date, this new behind-the-scenes featurette has hit the web for ‘Taken 3.’ The likes of Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, Maggie Grace and Forest Whitaker star in the film, which sees ‘Taken 2′ helmer Olivier Megaton back in the director’s chair. Neeson recently had the following to say about Bryan Mills’ latest escapade, “I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me.”
