After collaborating on the 2010 comedy ‘The Other Guys,’ it has been confirmed today that Mark Wahlberg will re-team with Will Ferrell in the Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez-produced comedy ‘Daddy’s Home.’ ‘Horrible Bosses 2′ helmer Sean Anders will direct and production will begin later this year.
‘Daddy’s Home’ follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids. The screenplay for the film is written by Brian Burns, with revisions by director Sean Anders, John Morris and Etan Cohen, along with contributions from Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions associates Chris Henchy and Adam McKay (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Campaign).
Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The Social Network) and Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines. The Dark Knight Rises) are set to lead the upcoming relationship drama ‘Blackbird,’ which will mark the feature debut of theater director Benedict Andrews (The Maids).
‘Blackbird’ follows two people who once had a passionate affair meet again fifteen years later. Ray (Mendelsohn) is confronted with his past when Una (Rooney Mara) arrives unannounced at his office, and they are forced to revisit their relationship. Ray has made a new life for himself. Una is looking for answers. What follows in this emotional thriller is an unflinching excavation of damaged love. The consequences are shattering.

New Trailer For ‘The Gambler’ – Starring Mark Wahlberg, Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams, John Goodman…
Paramount Pictures has unveiled this new full-length trailer for ‘The Gambler,’ Rupert Wyatt’s (The Escapist, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) remake of the 1974 James Caan film. Starring the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, John Goodman, Alvin Ing, and Michael K. Williams, the script for the crime drama is written by Oscar winner William Monahan (The Departed).
Mark Wahlberg leads the film as Jim Bennett, a literature professor whose gambling addiction is spiraling out of control. The dynamo in the lecture hall is leading a double life, blowing his family fortune and money borrowed from dangerous lenders. ‘The Gambler’ is slotted for an awards season-friendly limited release December 19th in the US. It’s apparently scheduled for release in the UK on May 1st, 2015, yet I imagine that will be pushed forward.
Please, please make this film finally happen O ye Gods!
Back in February, Terry Gilliam offered up some new details about his long-awaited and continually delayed adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes’ ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.’ Gilliam revealed that production on ‘Don Quixote’ will potentially kick off early next year on the Canary Islands. While very little news on the project has emerged since then, today we hear that Jack O’Connell, star of Angelina Jolie’s upcoming WWII survival tale ‘Unbroken,’ is set to headline Gilliam’s long-gestating passion project.
A modern and satirical twist on the tale, ‘Don Quixote’ stars Jack O’Connell as Toby, a jaded commercials director who travels to Spain for a shoot and comes across a gypsy who gives a copy of his student film – a lyrical re-working of the Don Quixote story set in a quaint old Spanish village. Moved by the discovery, Toby sets off on a bizarre road trip to find the little village where the student student film was shot and gets caught up in a series of catastrophies. It is expected that John Hurt will portray Miguel de Cervantes’ titular hero.
Back in the summer of 2012 it was reported that ‘(500) Days of Summer’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ director Marc Webb had been tapped to helm the indie drama ‘The Only Living Boy in New York.’ The film was put on hold as Webb focused on “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise for Sony, yet we now hear that Miles Teller is in talks to lead the indie drama. The Allen Loeb-scripted film is a twisted coming-of-age tale in which a young man (potentially Teller) learns that his overbearing father is having an affair. The son tries to stop it, only to become involved with the woman as well. With advice from a questionable quirky neighbor, the young man learns about love.
