Set in 1970 Los Angeles, ‘Inherent Vice’ follows the drug-fueled detective Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) as he investigates the case of a kidnapped girl. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood scored direcor Paul Thomas Anderson’s previous two films – ‘The Master’ and ‘There Will Be Blood’ – and will again lend the director his sparse, foreboding melodies.
Opening on December 12th in the US and January 30th in the UK, Paul Thomas Anderson’s hugely anticipated crime drama stars the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Jena Malone, Michael K. Williams, Katherine Waterston, Martin Short and Maya Rudolph.
Ahead of tomorrow’s trailer release, USA Today have unveiled this new set of images from ‘San Andreas,’ an action thriller that reunites Dwayne Johnson with director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn following their collaboration on ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.’ Also starring Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Kylie Minogue, and Art Parkinson, ‘San Andreas’ is slated to open in theatres on June 5th, 2015.
The synopsis for the film is as follows: After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning, and when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.
From Fox Searchlight comes this behind-the-scenes featurette for director Jean-Marc Vallée’s (Dallas Buyers Club) ‘Wild.’ The screenplay is adapted by Oscar nominated writer Nick Hornby (An Education, High Fidelity) from author Cheryl Strayed’s New York Times #1 best-seller ‘Wild,’ the book that re-launched Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. Out now in the US, the film opens on January 16th in the UK.
With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. ‘Wild’ powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her. The film also stars Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, Gaby Hoffman, Thomas Sadoski, and Kevin Rankin.

Adding to the existing cast of Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoë Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, and Kate Winslet, the supporting cast of ‘The Divergent Series: Insurgent’ is filled out with Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Suki Waterhouse, Rosa Salazar, Daniel Dae Kim, Jonny Weston, Emjay Anthony, and Keiynan Lonsdale. Ahead of the film’s January 9th release date, this new international poster has arrived online for ‘Taken 3.’ The likes of Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen, Maggie Grace and Forest Whitaker star in the film, which sees ‘Taken 2′ helmer Olivier Megaton back in the director’s chair. Neeson recently had the following to say about Bryan Mills’ latest escapade, “I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me.”
In the ‘Taken’ series, Liam Neeson stars as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent who used his brutal skills to track down his daughter after she was kidnapped in the first film, and who was himself taken hostage in the sequel. The initial ‘Taken’ cost around $25M and grossed more than $226 million with Pierre Morel directing. The Olivier Megaton-directed ‘Taken 2′ cost around $45M and took in more than $376 million – big money! As with both of those films, Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen wrote the screenplay for ‘Taken 3.’
With ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ director J.J. Abrams hard at work on ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ Paramount Pictures had originally pegged series producer-writer Roberto Orci to make his directorial debut on the tentatively titled ‘Star Trek 3.’ However, according to a new report from Deadline, Orci is no longer directing the film. And while they don’t give a reason for his departure, the outlet add that Edgar Wright is on the shortlist of directors to replace Orci in the director’s chair – a potential appointment that would sky rocket my anticipation for ‘Star Trek 3.’
The third entry in the rebooted sci-fi franchise is pegged to hit cinemas in 2016 – which also happens to be Star Trek’s big 50th anniversary…. so no pressure at all! While nothing has been confirmed to date, it is expected that the likes of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve and Karl Urban will return for ‘Star Trek 3.’
