Stunning “Sky Tower” Featurette For ‘Oblivion’ – Starring Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko & Morgan Freeman
Universal Pictures has set loose, via IGN, this new behind-the-scenes featurette for writer/director Joseph Kosinski’s (Tron: Legacy) ‘Oblivion.’ Starring Tom Cruise (Commander Jack Harper), Olga Kurylenko (Julia Rusakova), Andrea Riseborough (Victoria Olsen), Morgan Freeman (Malcolm Beech), Mellissa Leo (Sally) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Sykes), ‘Oblivion’ is based on Kosinski’s own Radical Publishing comic book series.
In 2073, a former-Marine Commander Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed at Earth which was nearly destroyed by an alien invasion 60 years ago. As part of a massive operation to extract the planet’s remaining vital resources, he lives in an airborne “town” floating thousands of meters above the Earth. His mission nearly complete, Jack’s soaring existence comes crashing down when he rescues a female stranger (Olga Kurylenko) from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a series of events that forces Jack to question everything he knows about the war and its aftermath. ‘Oblivion’ is released on April 10th in the UK and April 12th in the US. The official synopsis for the film can be read below the featurette.
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s 6-second teaser, MTV has today set loose this 20-second teaser for the first ‘The Wolverine’ trailer. The full-length 2-minute trailer lands online tomorrow. Alongside Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, ‘The Wolverine’ stars Hiroyuki Sanada as Shingen, Hal Yamanouchi as Yashida, Tao Okamoto as Mariko, Brian Tee as Norubo Mori, Will Yun Lee as Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai, Rila Fukushima as Yukio, and Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper. Scheduled for release on July 26th, ‘The Wolverine’ is directed by James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line, Knight and Day), while the script is by ‘The Usual Suspects’ scribe Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback.
Describing ‘The Wolverine’ as a “Japanese noir picture with tentpole action in it”, director James Mangold recently said the film is set after the previous X-Men movies. ‘The Wolverine’ takes inspiration from Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s Marvel miniseries from the 1980s dealing with the character’s adventures in Japan. There, samurai steel clashes with adamantium claws as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. The official synopsis for ‘The Wolverine’ can be read below the teaser.
First ‘The Great Gatsby’ TV Spot Released – Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan & Tobey Maguire
Warner Bros. Pictures has unleashed this first TV spot for the upcoming ‘The Great Gatsby’ adaptation. Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) directs the film from a screenplay co-written with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel of the same name – unquestionably one of my favourite books of all time. Lead by Leonardo DiCaprio as the title character, Jay Gatsby, ‘The Great Gatsby’ also stars Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Joel Edgerton and Carey Mulligan as Tom and Daisy Buchanan, Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke as Myrtle and George Wilson, newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker, and Indian film legend Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim. ‘The Great Gatsby’ arrives in cinemas on May 10th in the US and Canada, with an international rollout on May 15th.
‘The Great Gatsby’ follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
