This first trailer has arrived online for Zhang Yimou’s ‘Coming Home,’ which reunites the director with his ‘Red Sorghum’ and ‘Raise the Red Lantern’ star Gong Li. Inspired by Yan Geling’s “The Criminal Lu Yanshi” with a screenplay written by Jingshi Zou, ‘Coming Home’ is a romance drama chronicling the journey of a Chinese dissident (Chen Daoming) from the 1920′s to the 1990′s. No release date yet, although the film is expected to premiere at Cannes in May.
‘Coming Home’ marks the twelfth collaboration between the Sony Pictures Classics team and Zhang Yimou, dating back to the 1991 Orion Classics release of ‘Raise the Red Lantern.’ Other films include ‘House of Flying Daggers,’ ‘Shanghai Triad,’ ‘The Story of Qiu Ju’ and ‘Curse of the Golden Flower.’ The film will also be Sony Pictures Classics’ sixth collaboration with Producer Bill Kong which began in 2000 with Ang Lee’s Academy Award winning ’Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.’
9 Clips From ‘Starred Up’ – Starring Jack O’Connell, Ben Mendelsohn & Rupert Friend (Out Today In The UK)
Fox Searchlight has debuted this collection of clips from ‘Starred Up,’ which opened in the UK and Ireland today. ’Starred Up’ is the story of a young man, Eric (Jack O’Connell), who is prematurely transferred from a young offenders’ institution to adult jail for being too violent. As he struggles to assert himself against the prison officers and the other inmates, he has to confront his own father Nev (Ben Mendelsohn), a man who has spent most of his life in jail. As Eric forges allegiances with other prisoners, and learns that his rage can be overcome through his work with prison therapist Oliver (Rupert Friend), he discovers the new rules of survival. But there are forces at work that threaten to destroy him. The likes of Sam Spruell, David Ajala, Sian Breckin, Mark Asante, Peter Ferdinando, Anthony Welsh, David Avery and Ashley Chin also star.
The film, which is fantastic, is directed by award-winning UK filmmaker David Mackenzie (Young Adam, Hallam Foe, Perfect Sense) from a screenplay written by first-time scriptwriter Jonathan Asser, who has a background in the prison system working as an innovative therapist. The title comes from the process of prematurely upgrading a teenager from a Young Offenders’ Institution to Adult Prison. Expect word on international release dates shortly. This is definitely one to give a peep!
20th Century Fox have sent over this first clip from Nick Cassavetes’ upcoming comedy ‘The Other Woman.’ The following “He’s Married” clip features Cameron Diaz (Carly) and Nicki Minaj (Lydia) as we discover the problem with Carly’s latest love interest. Opening on April 23rd, the likes of Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton and Taylor Kinney also star.
After discovering her boyfriend is married, a woman (Diaz) tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidentally meets the wife he’s been cheating on (Mann), she realizes they have much in common, and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair is discovered (Upton), all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on their cheating, lying, three-timing SOB.
Hot on the heels of the film’s latest trailer, Disney has set loose this new TV spot for ‘Maleficent,’ the live action re-telling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Lead by Angelina Jolie as Disney’s notorious evil queen, ‘Maleficent’ co-stars Elle Fanning as Aurora, and Sharlto Copley as Stefan, the half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the human king. In the film, Miranda Richardson plays Queen Ulla, a fairy queen who is Maleficent’s aunt – and dislikes her niece. Kenneth Cranham plays the human king who plots to conquer the fairy kingdom. Sam Riley takes the role of Diaval, a raven who changes into human form and is Maleficent’s right hand. Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville play the three pixie fairies in the tale.
Set for release on May 30th, the film explores the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney’s animated classic ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ Academy Award-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (Avatar, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and Oz The Great and Powerful) directs from a script by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Alice in Wonderland).
The good people over at Digital Spy have set loose this latest behind-the-scenes featurette for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah.’ Scheduled for a March 28th release in the US and a April 4th bow in the UK, Ray Winstone will play the role of Tubal Cain, the nemesis to Russell Crowe’s titular hero. Emma Watson plays Ila, a young woman who develops a close relationship with Noah’s son, Shem. That role will be played by Douglas Booth, with Logan Lerman playing Noah’s other son, Ham. Jennifer Connelly plays Noah’s wife, Naameh. Anthony Hopkins is playing Methuselah, while Kevin Durand is playing a giant who helps Noah and his family. The likes of Dakota Goyo, Nick Nolte and Madison Davenport co-star.
Yahoo! Movies has unveiled the new trailer for ‘Brick Mansions,’ one of final films completed by Paul Walker before he tragically died last November. Opening on April 25th in the US and May 2nd in the UK, ‘Brick Mansions’ is an English-language reboot of the 2004 French film ‘District B13.’ The new film marks the directorial debut of renowned editor Camille Delamarre, whose recent editing credits include ‘Taken 2′ and ‘Transporter 3.’ David Belle (who co-founded the Parkour movement) reprises his role from the original French film, while RZA co-stars alongside Paul Walker.
‘Brick Mansions’ is set in a dystopian Detroit, where abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier (Walker) every day is a battle against corruption. For Lino (Belle), every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin, Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino’s girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they must stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city.
