Batman 3 news/rumor
Nov 18th

I don’t really like reporting rumours due to the fact that 90% of the time it’s just people making up stuff so that people check out their website but as a huge fan of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight this one perked my ears! According to batman-on-film there should be some sort announcement regarding Batman 3 January 2010, what they say is extremely vague and no official source was named so you can take from that what you want. I can imagine Warner Brothers would want to get this film rolling as soon as possible due to the massive success of The Dark Knight commercially, critically and from the audience itself. Christian Bale isn’t attached to any films at the moment (The Fighter finished filming a month or so back) and Christopher Nolan has almost finished shooting Inception (his top secret sci-fi action thriller ’set within the architecture of the mind’ due for release July 16th 2010) so you never know. I can’t see this shooting any earlier than late 2010/early 2011. Talk on someone other than Christopher Nolan directing this seems ridiculous to me.
There’s some scuttlebutt that in early 2010, Warner Bros. and Chris Nolan will finalize the plan for BATMAN 3, according to a solid and longtime BOF source. Whether there will be an announcement or not remains to be seen.
Our guy told BOF that in his opinion, the longer we don’t here a Nolan/B3 announcement in 2010, the less likely it is that the director will return. (I don’t know if I necessarily agree with that since I’m of the belief that Chris has already signed on.)
The Fighter – Christian Bale, Amy Adams & Mark Wahlberg
Nov 11th

I really like the look of this, I hope this is the film that get’s Christian Bale some Oscar consideration after a number of worthy performances – American Psycho, The Prestige & The Machinist. As you can see from the pic he’s lost a huge amount of weight to play his character in The Fighter, this guy has to be the one of the most dedicated actors in the business, his weight seems to go up and down every role he plays. No release date has been set for The Fighter to date, a good guess would say it will be released late 2010 in time for award season.
From acclaimed director David O. Russell (Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings) comes THE FIGHTER, the powerful true story of professional boxers Dickie (Christian Bale) and Micky (Academy Award Nominee Mark Wahlberg). Although they are half brothers, their careers take very different courses. Older brother Dickie does not suffer fro ma shortage of talent or confidence, but his lack of judgment and humility lead him down a path of self-destruction. After blowing his shot against one of the greatest fighters of his generation, Dickie descends down a dangerous road of drug addiction that robs him of his career, alienates his brother, and eventually lands him in jail. Meanwhile, discouraged from yet another defeat, younger brother Micky, whose talent never seems to match the size of his heart, vanishes into early retirement. But his itch to fight never goes away, and when a rehabilitated Dickie is released from prison and takes over as Micky’s trainer, Micky transforms himself from an underdog into a world champion prized pugilist.

Green Zone Trailer – Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass
Oct 28th

Been looking forward to this for a while now, was pissed it got pushed back! the three films I was looking forward to this year (Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life, Scorsese’s Shutter and this) were all delayed to a bloody 2010 release, Green Zone now has a release date of March 12th, 2010. Paul Greengrass director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum re teams with Damon for Green Zone, Damon stars as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil before war escalates in an unstable region. Is does look a bit Bourne’esque but I give that a pass I’m a sucker for intelligent action films!
About a pair of CIA agents (Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear) on the trail of Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent following their mission. Inspired by “Imperial Life in the Emerald City.” Green Zone is directed by Paul Greengass of Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum as well as Bloody Sunday and United 93. The script was written by Brian Helgeland, of L.A. Confidential, Conspiracy Theory, Mystic River, and Man on Fire previously. This is loosely based on Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s non-fiction book The Imperial Life in Emerald City.

Robin Hood – new pics…..British actors?!
Oct 28th

A couple new set pictures have been released from Ridley Scott’s upcoming Film Robin Hood. (check more out here)
Robin Hood stars Russell Crowe (in his 5th collaboration with Scott) as Mr R. Hood, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, William Hurt and Danny Hudson also feature.
To be honest I’m too sure about this, I really like Russell Crowe for me he is one of the best actors living actors, he has shown a number of times he can play this sort of roll brilliantly, I am also impressed by his dedication to this role and the supporting cast (Mark Strong is one the most underrated actors of our generation) is quality. The main problem I have is that another non British actor is playing another British icon (not to mention the rest of the cast being very non British), I believe over the last 2 decades this country has produced enough quality actors to play roles such as Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, there are a number of British actors that would be great as Robin Hood – Christian Bale(maybe Batman, John Connor and Robin Hood would be pushing it), Tom Hardy, Toby Kebbell (he’s from Nottingham!), Paddy Considine, Dominic West, Daniel Craig, Jim Sturgess and Tim Roth to name a few.
I’m probably being a little unfair, Imagine Entertainment in this current financial climate are spending over $130 million on this film, they want to at least know they’ve got a bankable Oscar winner in Russell Crowe. Also Ridley Scott is a GREAT Director who obviously knows a lot more about creating classic films than me – this is the man who brought the world Alien, Blade Runner and American Gangster! I guess we’ll have to wait and see, the teaser trailer should be released late December/January and the Film is due for release on May 14, 2010

Daybreakers
Oct 25th

Through the history of cinema no sub genre has been rinsed more than Vampire films. Lately they have been bastardized by some poor Films, TV shows(Buffy The Vampire) and the extremely gay Twilight. Just as soon as I totally lose faith I can thank the vampire heavens for Daybreaker! Daybreaker looks like the first vampire film in a long time that has a badass and inventive concept. The concept behind Daybreakers is similar to the book I Am Legend (not the movie with Will Smith that was some watered down BS if you’ve read the book). Edward Dalton is a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race (Daybreakers). Starring Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe
Daybreakers is in cinemas January 8th 2010
