Aug 31st
Warner Bros. have been releasing a truck load of images from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 every week, this new selection is probably only the start of this weeks fix. They’re promoting the hell out of this movie, to be fair it’s definitely working, I’m not exactly the biggest Harry Potter fan but for this I–AM–AMPED! Early test screening reviews have been highly positive, that gives us a real good indication that we’re in for a treat.

New Image Of Daniel Craig From The Set Of Cowboys and Aliens ‘Backing The Bid’
Aug 30th
The Sun have a released a new image from the set of Cowboys and Aliens featuring Daniel Craig “backing the bid” for England to host the 2018 World Cup. According to The Sun Daniel Craig is the 2 millionth person to ‘back the bid’. I have not the foggiest how they would know he’s the 2 millionth, but hey, it’s a new image from Cowboys and Aliens and I would love to see the World Cup in my home country
. The cast for Cowboys and Aliens is stacked with talent – Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Keith Carradine and Paul Dano, I for one have a hunch that this will be spectacularly awesome! Cowboys and Aliens will be hitting cinemas July 29, 2011. Check out the synopsis below.
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival. Cowboys and Aliens comes to theaters July 29th, 2011 and stars Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Daniel Craig, Jon Favreau, Noah Ringer, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine. The film is directed by Jon Favreau.
Jeremy Renner Joins Tom Cruise & Ving Rhames In Mission Impossible 4
Aug 26th
Deadline have reported that Jeremy Renner has signed on to star alongside Tom Cruise in Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible IV. They say “Paramount has struggled to find the right co-star to play an operative opposite Cruise, and one factor was selecting an actor who could potentially carry the series down the line, should Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character not continue to be the emphasis. While Cruise is expected to return for a fifth installment, production chief Adam Goodman wanted a guy who could grow into a leading man in his own right.”
I REALLY like the choice of Renner, he gave a powerhouse performance in The Hurt Locker. I like the fact that he’s not your obvious pretty boy choice, he’s not the most suave or charismatic actor out there, acting wise he’s definitely sitting with the big boys though. I’m so glad after putting in work for years he’s finally getting his due, he’s got some great roles lined up – Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, The Avengers and Ben Affleck’s The Town. My hopes for Mission Impossible 4 have substantially risen with the inclusion of Renner, not to mention that Brad Bird (Ratatouille, The Incredibles) is directing. Production on the fourth instalment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is scheduled to begin this fall under the direction of Brad Bird. J.J. Abrams is producing the December 16, 2011 release with Tom Cruise.
Angelina Jolie Announces Upcoming Movie Set During The 1992-95 Bosnian War
Aug 23rd
Angelina Jolie has announced via the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees that she’ll be starring in an upcoming love story that takes place during the 1992-95 Bosnian War. This will see her return to the Serbian capital of Sarajevo after visiting the city this past weekend in her UN Goodwill Ambassador role.
Jolie has said that the film will explore the effect of the war on the relationship of a couple who meet on the eve of battle. “The film is a love story, not a political statement,” she added. “I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can.”
I like the sound of this, Jolie has some range as an actor outside of the action packed films she’s become known best for. Two examples that come straight to mind are for her roles in The Changeling and A Mighty Heart, in both those films she gave incredibly brave and powerful performances. There’s very little details about this movie, much speculation has spread online that this will be Jolie’s directional debut. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Terrence Malick’s Upcoming Movie The Tree Of Life May Be Released By The End Of The Year
Aug 20th
Now this is news that brings a BIG smile to my face, Indiewire writer Anne Thompson recently talked to some sources within distributor Apparition about Terrence Malick’s highly anticipated film The Tree Of Life, and what she’s reporting is music to my ears. She believes that the film will hit before December 31st. But before you get too excited you have to bare in mind that just a few days ago, Thompson’s colleague at Indiewire and New York Film Festival committee member Todd McCarthy said this:
”Finally, of course, came word that Malick was still not done and it now seems clear the picture will not be opening this year. I can’t prove it, of course, and he’s supposedly set to start shooting a new film in Oklahoma in October, but I’m convinced we won’t be seeing ‘The Tree of Life’ until, at the earliest, the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Or perhaps it could turn up at the New York Film Festival a year from now.”
I really hope Anne Thompson’s sources are on the money, Malick is quite possibly my favourite director, his films are deeply philosophical, rich and exquisitely beautiful. Since his debut film Badlands in 1973, Malick has only made three other films (Days Of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World). I’m supremely confident his fifth will be as amazing, if not more so than his previous work.
Thompson’s source also goes on to say that Brad Pitt’s and Jessica Chastain’s performances in the film are awards worthy and that; “It’s a mystical exploration of the meaning of life, a journey in which a microcosm of a family mirrors the world; the differences between man and woman, husband and wife, are mirrored against nature and grace. It will change the language of movies. It’s a real event. People will say ‘what the fuck is this?’” I’m as stoked as a goat!
