Darren Aronofsky Offered The Gig Of Directing X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2
Oct 6th
Vulture have reported that 20th Century Fox have offered Darren Aronofsky the gig of directing X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2. However the article also goes on to say ‘[Aronofsky] is still being offered other valuable consolation prizes by Warner Bros., like Tales From the Gangster Squad, a high-priority project’. This ‘consolation price’ is in response to Warner Bros hiring Zack Synder for the Superman Reboot, a job Aronofsky was said to be interested in and on the studios final shortlist for.
I personally would LOVE to see Aronofsky directing Wolverine 2, he’s been the man behind some of my best loved films of the last twelve years in The Wrestler, The Fountain (which starred Hugh Jackman), Requiem for a Dream, Pi and not to mention this years much buzzed about Black Swan, all of which as he said when I interviewed him had little room to work with budget wise.
Wolverine is a comic book character I actually care about, to be brutally honest I don’t give a rat’s tutu about Superman and to a lesser extent Spiderman. Having Aronofsky officially on board would be incredible. Hopefully this could help us forget the first Wolverine movie – a humongous horse turd of a film. X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 comes to cinemas in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.
Zack Snyder To Direct The Christopher Nolan Produced Superman Reboot ‘Man Of Steel’
Oct 5th
Deadline have reported that Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch) has been confirmed as the director of Warner Bros upcoming Christopher Nolan produced Superman reboot ‘Man Of Steel’. He reportedly beat out the likes of Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, Duncan Jones and Darren Aronofsky for the gig. With the pick of Snyder I expect a dark tone, mind boggling visuals and a tonne of slow motion to boot from the movie. Here’s what Snyder had to say about the project:
“I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one. It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Christopher Nolan have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it.”
A number of sources have also hinted that the villain may be none other than General Zod. To be frank I’ve never been a fan of Superman, he’s always had too much power and too little personality for me. However even I am excited by the prospect of a Superman movie directed by Snyder. Not to mention Christopher Nolan, the man with the best current streak of great films (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception) onboard undertaking a godfather role for the project. Look out for this swooping down in cinemas Summer 2012.
Emma Thompson Set To Join The Cast Of Men In Black 3 – Starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones & Josh Brolin
Oct 1st
According to TheHollywoodRreporter Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson is in negotiations to join the cast of Men In Black 3. Apparently Thompson is in talks to play a “take-charge MIB operative Agent Oh, who is monitoring a prison breakout.” Other cast members include Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprising their roles, Sacha Baron Cohen, Josh Brolin portraying a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones’s character Agent Kay, and Jemaine Clement portraying the villain.
Men In Black 1 & 2 – which came out in 1997 and 2002 respectively, have combined to earn nearly $1.1 billion worldwide (big cheese $$$$). Men In Black is one of my favourite popcorn movies of the last 15 years, yet Men In Black 2 was a bit on the lame side for me. Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen had been hired to write the script for the third instalment. Men in Black 3 is set for release May 25th, 2012 and is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
Christopher Nolan Confirms That He’ll Be Directing ‘Batman 3′ & Michael Caine Says Filming To Begin In May?
Sep 29th

I just thought I’d put it out there that I would crawl 2 miles naked through broken glass just to hear the story of Batman 3 spoken through a walkie talkie by Stephan Hawking…………….with that out the way here’s some good news – Christopher Nolan has told Empire that he has officially come on board to direct the film;
”I don’t know if it’s announced or if it’s not announced,” said Nolan. “It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way. I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it.”
Hang on, that’s not 100% clear: so we can safely assume you’re directing?
“I think you can at this point, yes.”
In related news Michael Caine told the Chris Moyles show this morning that the movie will “probably start in May next year”. He also went on to say that Christopher Nolan and his co-writer/brother Jonathan Nolan are not revealing the villain to anyone (my money’s on Joseph Gordon-Levitt as The Riddler). Batman 3 is scheduled for release July 20th, 2012.
Darren Aronofsky Also Reportedly Considered To Direct The New Superman Reboot – With Natalie Portman As Lois Lane?
Sep 28th
The LA Times have reported that Darren Aronofsky’s name has been thrown into the hat of directors considered for the upcoming Superman Reboot alongside Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. For me Aronofsky has to be at the top of that list, he’s made some incredible films in his young career, which as he said when I interviewed him he has had little room to work budget wise. He’s seen as pretty much a lock for a Best Director nomination when awards season comes around for his latest movie Black Swan.
Moviehole have commented on this news piece further through a source who goes on to say that Aronofsky has “been talking about this for a while” and that they don’t think talks have “progressed beyond the suggestion of having Nat[alie Portman] be Lois. They wanted her first time around, this time they can get her – with Darren. But who knows where that’s at now”. Now that sounds good! I’d definitely buy Natalie Portman as Lois Lane. When they point out they wanted her first time around I assume they mean for the turd Superman Returns.
I’ve never been a fan of the awkward stranger from the planet Krypton. He’s always had too much power and too little personality for me. However even I am excited by the prospect of a Superman movie being directed by Aronofsky, Duncan Jones, Matt Reeves or Zack Snyder. Not to mention Christopher Nolan, the man with the best current streak of great films (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Inception) onboard undertaking a godfather role for the project.
Mark Ruffalo Talks About Playing A Motion Captured Hulk In The Avengers
Sep 25th
Vulture recently had a quick chit chat with Mark Ruffalo to talk about his role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Marvel’s forthcoming The Avengers movie. I know a lot of people are still soured by his appointment due to the way Marvel got rid of Ed Norton – myself included. However to be fair to Ruffalo he’s a quality actor who I’m sure will be great in the role. What he had to say to Vulture sounds pretty awesome:
“I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI. They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.”
Ruffalo goes on to say that he’s gonna try and stay closer to Bill Bixby’s version of the Hulk from The Incredible Hulk TV series:
“I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one. I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and f*cks everything up.”
The Avengers will be directed by Joss Whedon and is set to star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. The Avengers hits cinemas May 4th, 2012.
