Jonah Hill Interview For ’21 Jump Street’
Mar 7th
In the action-comedy ’21 Jump Street,’ Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier – and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs), ’21 Jump Street’ co-stars Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco, Jake Johnson, Johnny Simmons, Johnny Pemberton, Dakota Johnson, Ellie Kemper and Ice Cube. The film is released in cinemas March 16th.
Schmidt and Jenko think they have hindsight on their side going back to high school, but it doesn’t exactly work out like that?
Jonah Hill: Yeah. Schmidt and Jenko, they’re two guys that went to High School together, the first time, who didn’t really get along. Jenko was kind of a dumb bully and I was kind of a nerdier….nerd (laughs). Then we both end up joining the police force, we become friends through the police academy, and we become partners. We screw up really bad and get sent to this new unit, it’s basically for young looking cops that get sent to high school to bust drug dealers and crimes that take place in high school. When we infiltrate the high school, we try to look young and act young, we buy these new clothes, we try to figure out and reminisce through our own high school experiences to help us. It dawns on us that we’re lucky because we have the almanac, in ’Back to the Future 2,’ we have all the answers. Everyone always says, “If I only knew then, what I know now,” we kind of have that information. But then when we get back to high school we realise that all of that information and answers are no longer valid (laughs).

Columbia Pictures has released this Australian poster for the Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum starring comedy caper ’21 Jump Street.’ Whilst this poster is slightly terrible (“slightly” meaning “particularly”), I’m extremely optimistic about the actual film – its red band trailer cracked me up.
