Coinciding with an Academy Award nomination for “Best Visual Effects”, this new behind-the-scenes featurette for Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ has arrived online showcasing how the magicians over at Industrial Light and Magic built a digital New York. Industrial Light and Magic provide the following description for the video: “Although roughly a third of “The Avengers” is set in New York City precious little was actually filmed there. The crew then digitally recreated roughly 20 square blocks of mid-town Manhattan using a variety of techniques. Live action shoots were held primarily on sound stages in New Mexico and in the streets of Cleveland.”

‘The Avengers’ Concept Art Revealed & Discussed For Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye
Sep 22nd
Coinciding with the eagerly awaited Digital Download, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD release of ‘The Avengers,’ Marvel has posted an interesting interview with concept artist Andy Park, talking about Hawkeye’s (Jeremy Renner) costume in ‘The Avengers.’ Park also designed fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) on ‘The Avengers,’ giving him an advantage in making sure that Hawkeye’s cinematic look meshed well with his compatriots.
Considering that we had only seen Hawkeye briefly in Marvel’s ‘Thor,’ he was the one Avengers character whose costume we had not seen previously to ‘The Avengers.’ Andy Park talked about being in charge of the one hero in the film being introduced to audiences for the first time, “Hawkeye was one character where it wasn’t given to me from the get go. Charlie [Wen], Ryan [Meinerding] and I tackled it and we spent a week or two coming up with designs for Hawkeye, but we did know that it wasn’t going to be purple. We knew it would be more practical and not so super hero-like. Initially, they liked a version that Ryan did and from there I took over to expand on it, and kind of came up with the look for Hawkeye.”
Marvel’s Kevin Fiege Talks About The Future Of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk
Sep 21st
Speaking to MTV on the promotional campiagn for the DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download release of ‘The Avengers,’ Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Fiege spoke on the future of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the Marvel cinematic universe. With Marvel reportedly looking to embrace the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe in future films, MTV asked Fiege if it’s possible that we might see a live-action ‘Planet Hulk’ in the future. “I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe. ’Planet Hulk’ is a cool story. ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story.” ‘Planet Hulk’ is the Greg Pak-written epic that sees the Jade Giant as a rebel leader on an alien planet.
Kevin Fiege touched upon a few obstacles that he sees in the way of any possible Hulk-in-space solo films, “I think there’s pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I’d say everything is on the table.” Fiege continued on the topic of a Hulk movie, ”Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers’? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2.’ So there’s a lot of time to think about it. Part of what’s fun about the way we played him in ‘Avengers’ is the ensemble quality of it,” Fiege continued on why Hulk resonated with so many fans this summer, “I think the pathos and humor, most importantly, that Mark and Joss brought to it showcased a different element of Hulk that’s there in the comics, and was always inherent in his character. But when he was so brooding in his other two films, he didn’t get to have that wry sense of humor that Mark did such an amazing job performing.”
Joss Whedon Talks About Returning For Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ Sequel
Sep 16th
With ‘The Avengers’ garnering overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike, added to fact that it earned a gazillion dollars at the box office, it was always expected – and hoped for – that Joss Whedon would return to write and direct the films sequel. Now with Marvel confirming Whedon’s ‘The Avengers’ return, Crave Online spoke to the filmmaker about the decision to write and direct ‘The Avengers 2,’ “Avengers 2, it wasn’t a tough decision. For a long time I thought, “Well, it’s just not going to happen.” Then when I actually started to consider it, it became so clear that I desperately wanted to say more about these characters, it would’ve been an easy no and it was a spectacularly easy yes. There was no wrestling. Either scenario was delightful. It was a win win but I’m very excited about it.”
Announced in conjunction with the filmmakers return for ‘The Avengers’ sequel was Joss Whedon’s role in developing a live-action ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ series for Marvel Television at ABC. Crave asked Whedon if there will be room for Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford on ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ after they were in the Marvel One-Shot ‘Item 47,’ “I honestly don’t think they’re available because I think she’s on another show. We’re building it with a new group of people. They were great and that had a lot to do with why we’re making the show, but we’re starting fresh.” Continuing about the ’S.H.I.E.L.D.’ series, Whedon shed some light on the format of the Marvel show, ”It’s going to be a very standalone show. We’ll do what we always do which is every episode will conclude and you’ll have taken away your story, but there will be a through line running throughout. It will not be in the foreground but as in all of these shows, it will probably take foreground at some point, many seasons down the road God willing.”
