Christina Hendricks To Lead Campbell Scott’s Adaptation Of ‘A Book of Common Prayer’
Mar 6th
Variety reveal that the ‘Mad Men’ star Christina Hendricks will headline Campbell Scott’s feature adaptation of Joan Didion’s 1977 novel, ’A Book of Common Prayer.’ The novel centers on Charlotte Douglas, an American woman who arrives in a fictional Central American country that is on the verge of revolution and inexplicably imagines it is the place where she will be reunited with her fugitive 19-year-old daughter. The story is told through the eyes of an American anthropologist, long married into the ruling family, who tries to decipher the meaning of Charlotte’s journey.
“We are thrilled that Christina has agreed to come on board to play the lead role of Charlotte Douglas,” Campbell Scott and producer Marcia Weiss said. “Charlotte is a complex and compelling character and Christina is the perfect actor to play her.” The script has been adapted by Joyce McKee and Rachel LeMin. Scott’s directing credits include ‘Off the Map,’ ‘Final’ and ‘Company Retreat’ and co-directing ‘Big Night,’ which he also penned. Scott was last seen in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ as Richard Parker. Christina Hendricks will soon re-team with her ‘Drive’ co-star Ryan Gosling for his directorial debut, ‘How to Catch a Monster.’

That was quick! Following last weeks report that Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Alden Ehrenreich (the upcoming Beautiful Creatures) were linked to the role of Harry Osborn in Marc Webb’s upcoming sequel to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ THR now bring word that Douglas Booth (Noah), Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman), Boyd Holbrook (The Host) and Eddie Redmayne (My Week with Marilyn) tested for the role on Monday.
James Franco played the Harry Osborn role in the Sam Raimi-directed ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, taking a more brooding and dark path for the character, and an original plan was to continue that tradition in the new films, with Brady Corbet, Dane DeHaan and Alden Ehrenreich initially under consideration. THR’s sources now say the producers and filmmakers are seeking actors with characteristics that include “athleticism and good looks”. Osborn is an integral part of the Spidey mythology – the son of tycoon Norman Osborn, he’s one of Peter Parker’s few friends but evolves into one of Spider-Man’s nemeses.
