Natalie Portman Joins Terrence Malick’s ‘Lawless’ & ‘Knight Of Cups’
Feb 8th
Deadline bring word that Natalie Portman has put pen to paper on her first two movie roles since winning the Best Actress Oscar for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ and taking maternity leave. Portman has reportedly signed up to join Terrence Malick’s next two films, ‘Lawless’ and ‘Knight Of Cups.’ These two films will presumably follow Malick’s untitled romantic drama which is currently in post-production, that films stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Rachel McAdams, and Rachel Weisz.
‘Lawless’ will also star Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March) and boasts a supporting cast that includes Academy Award Winners Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, The Flowers of War), Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) plus Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Haunting of Molly Hartley). The second film, ‘Knight Of Cups,’ will star Christian Bale with a supporting cast including Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (Immortals, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Both films are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012. Since Malick’s debut film ‘Badlands’ in 1973, the acclaimed filmmaker has only made four other films, ‘Days Of Heaven,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ ‘The New World,’ and this years ‘The Tree of Life’ - which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is nominated for Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. Expect more details regarding Malick’s forthcoming films soon.

In somewhat surprising yet thoroughly thumbs up worthy news, FilmNation Entertainment has today announced that they are handling international sales and distribution on Terrence Malick’s next two films, ‘Lawless’ and ‘Knight Of Cups.’ These two films will presumably follow Malick’s untitled romantic drama which is currently in post-production, that films stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Rachel McAdams, and Rachel Weisz.
‘Lawless’ will star Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March) and boasts a supporting cast that includes Academy Award Winners Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, The Flowers of War), Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) plus Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Haunting of Molly Hartley). The second film, ‘Knight Of Cups, will star Christian Bale with a supporting cast including Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (Immortals, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Both films are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012. Sarah Green (Untitled Terrence Malick Project, The Tree of Life, The New World, Take Shelter, Mud) and Nicolas Gonda (Untitled Terrence Malick Project, The Tree of Life, The New World) will serve as the producers on both films with FilmNation Entertainment handling international sales during this week’s AFM.
Since Malick’s debut film ‘Badlands’ in 1973, Malick has only made four other films, ‘Days Of Heaven,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ ‘The New World,’ and this years ‘The Tree of Life.’ It looks like with three films on his slate, Malick’s work pace is speeding up! Terrence is a brilliant filmmaker and an enormous draw for talent and filmmakers alike. We look forward to robust sales at AFM on both of these films.”

Jan 28th
In a recent interview with The Irish Film & Television Network, casting director Ros Hubbard revealed that Saoirse Ronan has joined the cast of Peter Jackson’s much anticipated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ Ronan previously worked with Jackson on The Lovely Bones:
“[W]orking with Peter Jackson is like working with a family,” says Hubbard, “So they’ll have a great time. Saoirse’s family will go too. Everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs. It’s not like typical studio movies at all.”
It is rumoured that Ronan will play the part of Itaril. Peter Jackson, director of all three Lord of the Rings films, will be helming the two movies back-to-back for a 2012 and 2013 release….I can’t wait!
Cate Blanchett Returns To Middle Earth For Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’
Dec 8th
Cate Blanchett, Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy, Mikael Persbrandt, Ryan Gage, Jed Brophy and William Kircher have all joined the ever growing cast of Peter Jackson’s much anticipated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ Jackson, director of all three Lord of the Rings films, will be helming the two movies back-to-back for a 2012 and 2013 release.
Cate Blanchett is reprising her role from the Lord of the Rings trilogy as Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlorien. To date other actors on board include Martin Freeman, Graham McTavish, Aidan Turner, Rob Kazinsky, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown, John Callen, Peter Hambleton, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Richard Armitage and Ian McKellen. Rumoured to be making their way to middle earth are Andy Serkis returning as Gollum, Leonard Nimoy, Michael Fassbender and Brian Blessed – who’s voice is the epitome of the word ‘bellowing’.
Peter Jackson welcomed the news of Cate Blanchett’s return to Middle-earth “Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films.” On the casting of Scottish actor Ken Stott, Jackson commented “Fran and I have long been fans of Ken’s work and are excited he will be joining us on this journey.” Jackson also welcomed the addition to the cast of Swedish actor, Mikael Persbrandt, saying, “The role of Beorn is an iconic one and Mikael was our first choice for the part. Since seeing him read for the role we can’t imagine anyone else playing this character.”
New Robin Hood Featurette With Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett & Ridley Scott
Apr 8th
As the May 14th release date of Robin Hood is slowly creeping nearer and nearer, a brand new featurette has been released with Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong and director Ridley Scott talking about what drives the character of Robin Hood. I’ve started to come of the fence with this one, which after considering how much I loved Gladiator is pretty dumb. From the clips I’ve seen Russell Crowe’s accent sounds a bit dodgy, to be fair though I’ll have have to hear it in context than just one liners here and there.
