New ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Concept Art & Details
May 2nd
EW has revealed this new concept art for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ featuring the Winter Soldier himself. Additionally, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige shed some light on the film, “We weren’t going back to World War II. Cap cannot travel in time. So while Tony can go home to Malibu and Thor goes up to Asgard and Hulk can sort of ride the rails, Cap was stuck. So Cap does stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has nowhere else to go. But he’s not necessarily comfortable there. And just as he’s given permission to let go of the past and to focus on the modern world, a ghost comes up. With the Greatest Generation in World World II, there’s a tendency to reflect on that period and say, ‘Things were black and white back then, and now it’s hard to know who the bad guys are.’ ‘We wanted to play on that a little wit Cap being uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D., and in particular Nick Fury, operates.”
The Marvel sequel recently started production in Los Angeles, with production also including locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington DC. Directing the film is the team of Anthony and Joe Russo (Welcome to Collinwood) from a screenplay written by the ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Marvel’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ returns Chris Evans as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America, along with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. In addition, film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ is set for release on April 4th, 2014.

Apr 15th
Out and about on the promotional campaign for ‘Pain & Gain,’ Anthony Mackie opened up to Black Film about his role in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ Sam Wilson/The Falcon. On the significance of the role, Mackie revealed, “I’m happy to say that I’m in a good deal of the movie and I play an integral part with Captain America…. It’s great. They started the shoot 2 1/2 weeks ago and once I finished doing press for ‘Pain & Gain,’ I go in and join them. I’ve been doing combat training and fitness training just to get prepared. It’s going to be something and I’m excited for it.”
Anthony Mackie was then asked about his awareness of the character prior to taking on the role, “I had never heard of the Falcon. I knew nothing about him. Once they sent me the comic book and told me everything they wanted me to do, I read up some and looked up his story. I’m really excited. He’s a cool character and we need that. We want that (black) superhero that looks like them.” Finally, Black Film asked about his costume in the film, “They just released pictures of the costume last week. It’s more of a military style tactical costume. He’s more along the lines of Captain America as far as being a superhero as opposed to a true superhero.”
