Deadline bring word that Natalie Portman has put pen to paper on her first two movie roles since winning the Best Actress Oscar for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ and taking maternity leave. Portman has reportedly signed up to join Terrence Malick’s next two films, ‘Lawless’ and ‘Knight Of Cups.’ These two films will presumably follow Malick’s untitled romantic drama which is currently in post-production, that films stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Rachel McAdams, and Rachel Weisz.

‘Lawless’ will also star Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March) and boasts a supporting cast that includes Academy Award Winners Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, The Flowers of War), Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) plus Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Haunting of Molly Hartley). The second film, ‘Knight Of Cups,’ will star Christian Bale with a supporting cast including Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (Immortals, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Both films are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012. Since Malick’s debut film ‘Badlands’ in 1973, the acclaimed filmmaker has only made four other films, ‘Days Of Heaven,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ ‘The New World,’ and this years ‘The Tree of Life’ - which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is nominated for Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. Expect more details regarding Malick’s forthcoming films soon.

On the promotional campaign for ‘This Means War,’ the The UK Press Association briefly spoke to Tom Hardy about playing Bane in the eagerly anticipated conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: The actor has described the character as “brutal” and “heavy-handed”, but said that he had no problem separating himself from the role. ”I didn’t get into a dark place at all. A lot of dark characters are easy to have distance from, it’s something I feel comfortable with, I suppose.”

On the topic of wearing Bane’s mask, Hardy had the following to say: “Bane’s mask is tight, actually. I got used to it, but you get used to anything really, in time.”

The plot for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I’d expect something E P I C. Alongside Tom Hardy as Bane, the film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th. Christopher Nolan directs the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” supervised the visual and special effects, respectively. The music is composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”).

In helming the film, Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX cameras. The locations span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release beginning July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

This new clip has been released online, via Comingsoon, from Zhang Yimou’s Christian Bale-starring drama ‘The Flowers of War.’ I’ve got exceptionally high hopes for this film, Christian Bale is one my favourite actors and Yimou’s films – which include ‘House Of Flying Daggers,’ ‘Curse of the Golden Flower,’ ‘Hero,’ ‘Not One Less’ and ‘The Story Of Qui Ju’ – are continually mesmerizing and visually stunning. Based on a screenplay by Heng Liu (Assembly, The Story of Qiu Ju) and adapted by Geling Yan’s historical novel, the film is approximately 40% in English and 60% in Mandarin. ‘The Flowers of War’ has been scheduled a January 20th release in the US. FilmNation have said the film is “expected early 2012 in the UK.”

Inspired by true life events, ’The Flowers of War’ tells a genuine story of hope and sacrifice. Set in 1937, Nanking stands at the forefront of a war between China and Japan. As the invading Japanese Imperial Army overruns China’s capital city, desperate civilians seek refuge behind the nominally protective walls of a western cathedral. Here, John Haufman (Bale), an American trapped amidst the chaos of battle and the ensuing occupation takes shelter, joined by a group of innocent schoolgirls and thirteen courtesans, equally determined to escape the horrors taking place outside the church walls. Struggling to survive the violence and persecution wrought by the Japanese army, it is an act of heroism which eventually leads the seemingly disparate group to fight back, risking their lives for the sake of everyone. With nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, fate always has a way of bringing the most unlikely heroes together.

In addition to unveiling this weeks cover image, Entertainment Weekly has released five new photos from Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ providing us with new looks at Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon. The plot for the film is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the trailer and the previous two films I can imagine something E P I C.

In the article Christian Bale opened up about his last day in the Batsuit: “My last day in the suit was also the last day of shooting for me. I was in New York, on top of a downtown skyscraper. The day began with Morgan Freeman and then ended with Anee Hathaway. I got to say goodbye from within the batcowl. it was very quiet, just a couple people there. But in the midst of it, I said, ‘Hold on a sec. Let me take a moment. This is it. I’m never going to have this claustrophobia again!’ So I had to pause. I had to.

“It’s a fascintating thing, that suit, don’t you think? And since I am generally within it, I actually don’t get to see it that often. Not the way that other people do. I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure because you owe it to the films-and the people’s expectations-to make greatwork.”

Entertainment Weekly also spoke to Christopher Nolan talks Occupy Wall Street and Bruce Wayne’s wealth: Nolan denies reports that he wanted to shoot the protesters who encamped in Zuccotti Park last fall for the film. He and his collaborators conceived Rises more than three years ago, he notes, and obtained their New York shooting permits “nine months before Occupy Wall Street even existed.” Still, he’s not shying away from the implications. “The truth is, we wanted to shoot on Wall Street for the same iconic reasons that the Occupy movement chose that location: It is a symbol of American wealth and capitalism,” says Nolan, who hasjust begun editing the movie and cautions that the question of relevancy is premature. “In trying to tell as story of a self-made hero who is a multibillionaire, it raises certain issues that I do think are important in the world today, about the use and abuse of wat is Bruce Wayne’s only superpower” extraordinary wealth.”

Alongside Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ also stars Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. The film is scheduled for release July 20th. Check out the production notes for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ below.

Hero Complex recently caught up with Anne Hathaway to talk about her playing Catwoman/Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s hugely anticipated conclusion to his Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Speaking about her costume, the actress had the following to say: “I love the costume, because everything has a purpose, nothing is in place for fantasy’s sake, and that’s the case with everything in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City.”

On the topic of Gotham City, Hathaway said: “Gotham City is full of grace. You look at Heath’s performance as the Joker, there was a lot of madness there but there was also a grace and he had a code there. There’s a lot of belief and codes of behavior in Gotham and my character has one, too. A lot of the way she moves and interacts with people is informed by her worldview. Chris has given us all such complex, defined, sophisticated worldviews that it’s just a matter of doing your homework and getting underneath the character’s skin.”

In regards to how other interpretations of the character have affected her performance, Hathaway revealed: “What’s come before doesn’t limit or even affect this new version. It doesn’t affect me because each Catwoman, and this is true in the comics as well, she is defined by the context of the Gotham City created around her. Catwoman is so influenced by Gotham and whoever is creating Gotham at the time. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman was informed by Tim Burton’s Gotham and Eartha Kitt was informed by Adam West’s Gotham. You have to live in whatever the reality of the world is and whatever Gotham is.”

Hero Complex also offer up a scene description from the movie that features Hathaway as Catwoman, be warned though as it contains spoilers. If you are interested in the scene description you check it out here. Alongside Anne Hathaway, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release July 20th, 2012. The films production notes are below.

After leaking online over the weekend in low quality, Warner Bros has just let out the hatch this first full-length theatrical trailer for the hugely anticipated conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ The plot for the film is being kept securely under lock and key, judging by the teaser and the previous two films I’d expect something E P I C. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. The Dark Knight Rises’ is scheduled for release on July 20th 2012.
