Deadline bring word that Natalie Portman has put pen to paper on her first two movie roles since winning the Best Actress Oscar for Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ and taking maternity leave. Portman has reportedly signed up to join Terrence Malick’s next two films, ‘Lawless’ and ‘Knight Of Cups.’ These two films will presumably follow Malick’s untitled romantic drama which is currently in post-production, that films stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Rachel McAdams, and Rachel Weisz.

‘Lawless’ will also star Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March) and boasts a supporting cast that includes Academy Award Winners Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, The Flowers of War), Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) plus Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Haunting of Molly Hartley). The second film, ‘Knight Of Cups,’ will star Christian Bale with a supporting cast including Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (Immortals, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). Both films are currently in pre-production and will shoot back-to-back in 2012. Since Malick’s debut film ‘Badlands’ in 1973, the acclaimed filmmaker has only made four other films, ‘Days Of Heaven,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ ‘The New World,’ and this years ‘The Tree of Life’ - which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and is nominated for Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. This new clip has been released online, via Comingsoon, from Zhang Yimou’s Christian Bale-starring drama ‘The Flowers of War.’ I’ve got exceptionally high hopes for this film, Christian Bale is one my favourite actors and Yimou’s films – which include ‘House Of Flying Daggers,’ ‘Curse of the Golden Flower,’ ‘Hero,’ ‘Not One Less’ and ‘The Story Of Qui Ju’ – are continually mesmerizing and visually stunning. Hero Complex recently caught up with Anne Hathaway to talk about her playing Catwoman/Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s hugely anticipated conclusion to his Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Speaking about her costume, the actress had the following to say: “I love the costume, because everything has a purpose, nothing is in place for fantasy’s sake, and that’s the case with everything in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City.”

On the topic of Gotham City, Hathaway said: “Gotham City is full of grace. You look at Heath’s performance as the Joker, there was a lot of madness there but there was also a grace and he had a code there. There’s a lot of belief and codes of behavior in Gotham and my character has one, too. A lot of the way she moves and interacts with people is informed by her worldview. Chris has given us all such complex, defined, sophisticated worldviews that it’s just a matter of doing your homework and getting underneath the character’s skin.”

In regards to how other interpretations of the character have affected her performance, Hathaway revealed: “What’s come before doesn’t limit or even affect this new version. It doesn’t affect me because each Catwoman, and this is true in the comics as well, she is defined by the context of the Gotham City created around her. Catwoman is so influenced by Gotham and whoever is creating Gotham at the time. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman was informed by Tim Burton’s Gotham and Eartha Kitt was informed by Adam West’s Gotham. You have to live in whatever the reality of the world is and whatever Gotham is.”
