Christian Bale & Isabel Lucas On The Set Of Terrence Malick’s ‘Knight Of Cups’
Jul 5th
Zimbo has posted these new images of Christian Bale in the company of Isabel Lucas on the set of Terrence Malick’s ‘Knight Of Cups,’ one of two films Malick is filming back-to-back in 2012. This new batch of images follows a series of set pics featuring Bale filming alongside the likes of Freida Pinto, Cate Blanchett, Wes Bentley, Imogen Poots and Natalie Portman. As a massive Terrence Malick fan it feels slightly bizarre – yet thoroughly thumbs-up worthy – that he’s filming two films this year. Since his debut film in 1973, ‘Badlands,’ the acclaimed filmmaker has only made four other flicks; ‘Days Of Heaven,’ ‘The Thin Red Line,’ ‘The New World,’ and last years ‘The Tree of Life’ - which won the 2011 Palme d’Or at Cannes. Besides ‘Knight Of Cups,’ Malick has been shooting the tentatively-titled ‘Lawless’ this year. ‘Knight Of Cups’ stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Wes Bentley, Isabel Lucas, Natalie Portman, Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto and Justin Wheelon, while ’Lawless’ will star Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Haley Bennett, and Natalie Portman.
Terrence Malick also has a romantic-drama, ‘To The Wonder,’ filmed and rumoured for release later this year. ‘To The Wonder’ stars the likes of Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Amanda Peet, Jessica Chastain and Rachel Weisz. The story concerns a philanderer (Ben Affleck) who, feeling at loose ends, travels to Paris, where he enters a hot-and-heavy affair with a European woman (Olga Kurylenko). Said Lothario returns home to Oklahoma, where he marries the European woman (in part for visa reasons). When the relationship founders, he rekindles a romance with a hometown girl (Rachel McAdams) with whom he’s had a long history. Expect more details related to ‘Knight Of Cups’ and the tentatively-titled ‘Lawless’ shortly.
Stunning New ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Poster Highlights Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne & Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle
Jul 5th
“The Legend Ends.” Featuring Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle front and centre, Warner Bros has just unveiled this rather excellent banner poster for Christian Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (you can view it in hi-res here). I, for one, am fascinated to see how Anne Hathaway’s ambiguous Catwoman/Selina Kyle fits into the story for the Nolan’s conclusion to his Batman trilogy. In particular how she interacts with Christian Bale’s Batman/Bruce Wayne – is she a friend, foe, or more likely, somewhere in the middle? From the latest batch of TV spots and theatrical trailer, I’ve been increasingly liking what I’ve seen of Hathaway’s performance. Similarly, from the brief snippets of footage, Tom Hardy looks like he’s doing something special with his incarnation of the physically imposing and menacing villain, Bane. In related news, I’ve also posted a bombastic new Chinese TV spot for the film, which showcases fresh looks at Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne/Batman and series regulars Commissioner Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and Alfred (Michael Caine), alongside a number of brief clips featuring newcomers to Nolan’s Dark Knight saga in Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy’s Bane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake.
Once the credits started to roll after the final scene in ‘The Dark Knight’ – the visually stunning montage scene featuring Jim Gordon’s (Gary Oldman) epic “he’s the hero Gotham deserves” monologue, capped off with that last beautiful shot of Christian Bale’s Batman on his Bat-pod going off in the distance – a third instalment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series has been sitting gloriously and comfortably at the top of my “most anticipated film” list. The release of that film is now just over two weeks away, arriving in cinemas and IMAX on July 20th. Based upon characters appearing in comic books published by the good folks over at DC Comics, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. The screenplay for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer. Check out the official synopsis and production details for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ below the new TV spot.
Michael Caine Talks About Working On ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ With Christopher Nolan & Tom Hardy
Jul 5th
It’s not like I’m counting or anything….OK, maybe I am, but we’re just 15 days away from the release the hugely-anticipated finale in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ With that, Empire has posted a new interview with Sir Michael Caine – who’s marking his fifth collaboration with Nolan on the film – to talk all things ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Throughout Nolan’s Series, Michael Caine has portrayed Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, guardian, father figure, and above all, friend. Over the course of ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight,’ Alfred has been an integral part of Bruce Wayne/Batman’s inner circle alongside Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox and Gary Oldman’s Commissioner Gordon. Commenting on his experience working with Christopher Nolan, Michael Caine reveals, “It’s fabulous. And of course, one of the greatest talents of a director is casting. I once said to John Huston when I was working with him on The Man Who Would Be King, “what is the talent of a director?” He said “casting”, and you look at the cast of actors that Chris has got. It’s absolutely wonderful every time. And this one, Dark Knight Rises, is no exception. He’s got one of my favourite new young British actors, Tom Hardy, who I saw on television a couple of years ago and I went, “who the bloody hell is that?” And he’s proved me right.”
On the topic of the huge scope of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ Michael Caine shed some light on his experience making it, “For me, it was incredible because the great thing about it was – and the secret of the success of this picture as opposed to those massive blockbusters out there – is the stunts and special effects are real. There is very, very little computer generated imaging in it. All these other ones you see a million people marching towards you, you know they’ve photographed ten and just kept doubling it up and up and up. In ours, when the stuntman falls off the roof, it’s a real man falling off the roof and hitting the bottom. And I think that is very important. It’s very human and I suppose the class of acting is a little better… For a start both Batman and the butler are Oscar-winners! (laughs). Gary Oldman, who’s the chief of police, nearly became one himself, do you see what I mean? So it’s a very high standard of acting, and a very high standard of reality. That’s the secret of that series, for me.”
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Running Time Confirmed For 164 Minutes 27 Seconds
Jul 3rd
Long rumoured to clock in at 2 hours and 45 minutes, Christopher Nolan’s hugely-anticipated finale to his Batman trilogy, ’The Dark Knight Rises,’ has been confirmed by the British Board of Film Classification to have a running time of 164 minutes and 27 seconds, a tad over 2 hours and 44 minutes. The two previous installments in Nolan’s Batman saga, ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight,’ had running times of 140 minutes and 152 minutes respectively. The BBFC also confirm that the film will have, rather unsurprisingly, ”moderate violence.” Another interesting tidbit of information from the BBFC comes in the form of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ cast listing on their website, with Liam Neeson listed. In ‘Batman Begins,’ Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul first acted as a mentor and teacher to Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne, but then became his arch-enemy after Bruce left Ra’s League of Shadows and subsequently became Batman. Speculation online has long pointed towards Neeson cameoing in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is set eight years after Batman (Bale) took the fall for Two Face’s crimes in ‘The Dark Knight.’ The film sees the Caped Crusader resurface to protect a city that brands him an enemy as a new terrorist leader, Bane (Tom Hardy), overwhelms Gotham’s finest.
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown co-star. New Updated Synopsis For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Jul 2nd
With the films release on the horizon, Warner Bros has just set loose this slightly more in-depth synopsis for the much anticipated final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Landing online via the films official website, TheDarkKnightRises.com, the new synopsis still keeps much of the key plot points and character motives under wraps – which is most welcomed by me! The newly unveiled synopsis for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is as follows: “Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.”
Judging by films thrilling trailers, its marketing campaign, the first-rate cast, and most importantly; the two previous installments in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight saga, ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight,’ I think it’s safe to say that we can expect something rather special from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ when it lands in cinemas and IMAX on July 20th. I, for one, am fascinated to see how Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman/Selina Kyle fits into the story for the ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ In particular how she interacts with Christian Bale’s Batman/Bruce Wayne – is she a friend, foe, or more likely, somewhere in the middle? As more and more footage has emerged online, I’ve been increasingly liking what I’ve seen of Hathaway’s performance. Similarly, from the brief snippets of footage, Tom Hardy looks like he’s doing something special with his incarnation of the physically imposing, destructive and intellectual villain, Bane. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate. New ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Viral Material Centers On Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake & Confidential Emails
Jul 2nd
In the latest series of viral marketing for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ DEWGothamCity has posted these rather excellent scans centering on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s chracter in the film, John Blake, providing us with a look at his annual performance review as a Gotham City Police Department Officer. The “comment” section of John Blake’s review gives us some interesting insight into the character and where we meet him in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: “Officer Blake shows great dedication and tenacity. He made an impact in his assigned beat by building effective associations within the local community. High marks for skills and conduct. Needs minor improvement in his relationships with fellow officers. His thoroughness tends to make him judgemental of colleagues’ performances and leads him to question authority. Officer Bale has made a request to be transferred to Narrows Division. Given his success in his previous detail, transfer should be granted. Need more officers like him.”
In addition to John Blake’s viral, an intriguing email exchange has popped up online from employees of The Gotham Observer. The email exchange has an interesting portion centering on a series of Penthouse burglaries….sounds like a certain Catwoman/Selina Kyle. There’s also some tidbits in the set of emails relating to Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate character, and her joining the board at Bruce Wayne’s Wayne Enterprises. In further ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ news, the MTV Movie Awards footage is now officially online thanks to the folks over at Xfinity. I’ve posted the video just below the new viral material.
