Darren Aronofsky Wants Russell Crowe & Liam Neeson For ‘Noah’
Feb 2nd
Darren Aronofsky apparently has his eyes on Russell Crowe for the title role in his epically-scaled retelling of the biblical story ‘Noah,’ according to Deadline. Additionally, Aronofsky is said to be interested in offering another part to Liam Neeson, which is currently unspecified. ‘Noah’ would be Aronofsky’s follow up effort to the Oscar-nominated and hugely profitable ‘Black Swan,’ which grossed $315 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. Talking about the project, Aronofsky had the following to say in the past: “Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey. The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.”
I’ve got extremely high hopes for this film, this project has been one Aronofsky’s been developing since his teens. The premise and sheer ambition of ‘Noah’ has me stoked. Aronofsky is the man behind some of my favourite films of the last twelve years in ‘The Wrestler,’ ‘The Fountain,’ ‘Requiem for a Dream,’ ‘Pi’ and ‘Black Swan’ – fingers crossed ‘Noah’ adds to that list. The film is to start production in the summer, for a fall 2013 release. John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator) is set to rewrite the script by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, while Aronofsky and Scott Franklin will produce the film.
Christian Bale Passes On Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’ – Michael Fassbender A Possible Replacement?
Dec 1st
Variety report that Christian Bale has had to pass on playing the lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s epically-scaled retelling of the biblical story ‘Noah’ due to scheduling issues with the two Terrence Malick films (Lawless and Knight of Cups) he’s shooting back to back next year. Apparently Aronofsky has discussed the role with Michael Fassbender as a replacement.

Deadline bring word that Paramount and New Regency have formalized a deal to partner on ‘Noah,’ Darren Aronofsky’s epically-scaled retelling of the biblical story of Noah, the Ark and the flood. ‘Noah’ would be Aronofsky’s follow up effort to the Oscar-nominated and hugely profitable ‘Black Swan,’ which grossed $315 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. Earlier in the summer Christian Bale had been linked to the part of Noah, however nothing official has been announced at this moment in time. Darren Aronofsky Talks ‘Noah’ – “I Want To Make A Big Event Film”
Jun 20th
After dropping out of ‘The Wolverine’ a couple months back for personal reasons, Darren Aronofsky has been moving towards production on his next project, ‘Noah,’ his epically-scaled retelling of the biblical story of Noah, the Ark and the flood. Speaking to IFC News Aronofsky shed some light on the project revealing,“I don’t think it’s a very religious story,” he added,“I think it’s a great fable that’s part of so many different religions and spiritual practices. I just think it’s a great story that’s never been on film.” Aronofsky sounds like he’s gearing up for big things with this project,“I want to make a big event film,” said Aronofsky, “and I think it can be that.” Regarding the rumours linking Christian Bale to play the lead role the director “grinned and said “no comment.”
‘Noah’ would be Aronofsky’s follow up effort to the Oscar-nominated and hugely profitable ‘Black Swan,’ which grossed $315 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. Fingers crossed we get to see this film soon, the premise has me stoked. Aronofsky is the man behind some of my favourite films of the last twelve years in The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream, Pi and Black Swan. My hopes are high!
Hugh Jackman Talks ‘The Wolverine’ – “Everyone Is Still Pushing Forward To Getting It Done”
Mar 30th

After revealing footage from his upcoming robot-boxing drama ‘Real Steel’ at CinemaCon, Hugh Jackman spoke to EW about his X-Men spin-off ‘The Wolverine,’ which has seemingly been left in a pickle after Oscar nominated director Darren Aronofsky backed out of project just over a week ago, in addition to the recent tragedy’s in Japan:
“So now we’re out looking for a director,” Jackman shrugged. “We were pretty much ready to go. The script is fantastic — the best we’ve ever had, which is why it attracted Darren in the first place. His personal situation precludes him from doing it now, and I feel for him. But now we need to find a director.” Jackman wouldn’t cite any preference, but said the team is aiming for another prestige filmmaker, not just someone to yell “action” and “cut.”
“We’re not going to settle. We’re going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good,” Jackman said. “Everyone is still pushing forward to getting it done.” The actor did acknowledge a little impatience, especially since he’s growing weary of his protein-powered, muscle-building diet. “I can’t be eating too many more chicken breasts,” he groaned.
‘The Wolverine’ is still scheduled for a 2012 release date. The script has been written by ‘The Usual Suspects’ scribe Christopher McQuarrie. It’s going to be extremely hard to find someone with Aronofsy’s chops to jump on board for this film. Personally he’s one of my top 3 directors working today.
Director Darren Aronofsky Drops Out Of ‘The Wolverine’ – Bummer!
Mar 17th
My interest level for ‘The Wolverine’ aka Wolverine 2 has just plummeted 200%* (*that might be a slight exaggeration). The Hollywood Reporter bring word that Academy Award-nominated director Darren Aronofsky is no longer directing the Hugh Jackman starring flick - I guess it was to good to be true. In a statement Aronofsky said:
As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, who have been totally supportive throughout my work on the movie, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.
20th Century Fox added: While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do The Wolverine, we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both The Wrestler and Black Swan with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making The Wolverine. We will regroup and move forward aggressively.
Aronofsky is the man behind some of my favourite films of the last twelve years in The Wrestler, The Fountain (which starred Hugh Jackman), Requiem for a Dream, Pi and Black Swan. ‘The Wolverine’ comes to cinemas in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.
