Fox Searchlight Acquire Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’; New Plot Details Revealed
Mar 28th
Screendaily bring word that Fox Searchlight has acquired worldwide rights to Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ follow-up, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ and has come on board as co-financier. At this moment in time, the studio is understood to be exploring release dates either in late 2013 or 2014. ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ marks the first time Fox Searchlight has distributed an Anderson film since 2009’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ It also released ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ in 2007. Anderson has said that the story, set 85 years ago in a Hungarian hotel, is partly inspired by the witty films of Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch (The Shop Around the Corner).
The stellar cast for ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ includes Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Harvey Keitel, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Saoirse Ronan, Tom Wilkinson, Mathieu Amalric, F Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban and Tony Revolori. The new plot details revealed in Screendaily’s report is as follows: “The Grand Budapest Hotel tells of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his trusted protégé. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century.”
Andrea Riseborough Joins Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s ‘Birdman’
Mar 8th
Following the news that Fox Searchlight and New Regency have pegged Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s (Babel, Biutiful, 21 Grams, Amores Perros) ‘Birdman,’ Deadline reveal that Andrea Riseborough has signed on to play the part of Laura in the film. As opposed to Gonzalez Inarritu’s usual soul-searing dramas, ‘Birdman’ is described as a dark comedy that follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. However, the play’s egotistical leading man threatens to throw everything down the tubes.
Michael Keaton, who played Batman in the 1989 and 1992 Tim Burton movies, is the comic book movie star trying to regain his credibility. Emma Stone will play Keaton’s daughter, fresh from rehab and now his assistant. Naomie Watts will be an actress in the play. Zach Galifianakis will play the production’s conniving producer, while Edward Norton will star as the play’s egotistical leading man. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu co-wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo. He is producing with Robert Graf and John Lesher. An early April production start is being eyed.

Rachel Weisz Speaks On Sam Raimi’s ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’
Aug 11th
Speaking to Stylist (via Digitalspy) while on the promotional rounds for ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ Rachel Weisz touched on a number of topics relating to the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise, her career, writing/directing, and her family. Furthermore, Weisz spoke briefly – and glowingly – about her work on Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantastical Wizard Of Oz spin-off, ’Oz: The Great and Powerful,’ where she plays Evanora, the Wicked Witch of the East, “That was the most flat-out fun I have ever had making a film. It’s all in the Emerald City. James Franco is the Wizard and I am the Wicked Witch of the East, Mila Kunis is the Wicked Witch of the West and Michelle Williams is Glinda the Good Witch, very saintly and put-upon and beautiful. I got to shoot lightning out of my fingertips, fly around in a black sequined dress and wear lots of red lipstick. It was a complete antidote to doing Bourne – not that Bourne needed an antidote.”
‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot – fame and fortune are his for the taking – that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity – and even a bit of wizardry – Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ is pencilled in for a March 8th, 2013 release.
Fantastic Collection Of ‘The Bourne Legacy’ Alternative Posters
Aug 9th
Well, these are awesome. The good folks over at ShortList have commissioned this collection of alternative ‘The Bourne Legacy’ posters from some of their favourite artists (Chris Thornley, Brandon Schaefer, Ben Whitesell, Dan Keane, Matthew Ferguson, Midnight Marauder, Matt Needle, Maxime Pecourt, Fernando Reza). Co-written and directed by Tony Gilroy (The Devil’s Advocate, Michael Clayton), ‘The Bourne Legacy’ features a whole new hero (Jeremy Renner; The Hurt Locker, The Town, The Avengers, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) in the same universe as the first three Bourne films – though the character of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is absent. ’The Bourne Legacy’ comes to cinemas August 10th in the US and August 13th in the UK. The likes of Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach, Rachel Weisz and Scott Glenn co-star.
Tony Gilroy, the narrative architect behind the Bourne film series takes the helm ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. Faced with the public and political fallout from the events of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum,’ the CIA decides to shut down “Operation Outcome,” the successor to “Operation Treadstone.” Cross, an agent of Operation Outcome, and Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz), a research scientist who helped create the Outcome agents, must find a way to escape before CIA agent Byer (Edward Norton) can have them assassinated. Check out my interviews for ‘The Bourne Legacy’ here: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, and Tony Gilroy. The official synopsis and production notes for ‘The Bourne Legacy’ can be read below the rest of the posters.
