Yahoo have debuted a great new clip from Angelina Jolie’s Salt. Salt looks set to be one of those head scratching, who, what, where, why and when spy thrillers. From the looks of this clip and the trailers it reminds me of the Bourne movies, but with lipstick and a skirt – which can only be a good thing!
Angelina Jolie stars in Columbia Pictures’ Salt, a contemporary espionage thriller. Before becoming a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. She will prove loyal to these when a defector accuses her of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, protect her husband, and stay one step ahead of her colleagues at the CIA. Salt comes to theaters July 23rd, 2010 and stars Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Zoe Lister Jones, Yara Shahidi, Gaius Charles, Victor Slezak, Daniel Olbrychski. The film is directed by Phillip Noyce.
By the blood of a whore this looks dark, bizarre, charming and utterly fantastic! Get Low has received a number of glowing reviews from the film festival circuit, and from this trailer I can certainly see why. The cast is exceptional, I’m a huge fan of both Bill Murray and Robert Duvall in particular, Duvall looks like he gives a powerhouse performance in this. If you could have a sneak peak at my my most anticipated films list, you would see this sitting pretty right at the top, I fully expect this to be stunning.
For years, townsfolk have been terrified of the backwoods recluse known as Felix Bush. People say he’s done all manner of unspeakable things — that he’s killed in cold blood; that he’s in league with the Devil; that he has strange powers — and they avoid him like the plague. Then, one day, Felix rides to town with a shotgun and a wad of cash, saying he wants to buy a funeral. It’s not your usual funeral for the dead Felix wants. On the contrary, he wants a ‘living funeral,’ in which anyone who ever had heard a story about him will come to tell it, while he takes it all in. Sensing a big payday in the offing, fast-talking funeral home owner Frank Quinn enlists his gentlemanly young apprentice, Buddy Robinson to win over Felix’s business. Buddy is no stranger to Felix’s dark reputation, but what he discovers is that behind Felix’s surreal plan lies a very real and long-held secret that must get out. As the funeral approaches, the mystery – which involves the widow Maddie Darrow, the only person in town who ever got close to Felix, and the Illinois preacher Charlie Jackson who refuses to speak at his former friend’s funeral – only deepens. But on the big day, Felix is in no mood to listen to other people spinning made-up anecdotes about him. This time, he’s the one who is going to do the telling about why he has been hiding out in the woods. Get Low stars Bill Murray, Robert Duvall, Lucas Black, Gerald McRaney, Sissy Spacek, Bill Cobbs, Andrea Powell, Lori Beth Edgeman and is directed by Aaron Schneider. Get Low is released in the US 30th July. No UK release date yet.
After months of speculation Columbia Pictures have confirmed that Andrew Garfield has been signed up to play Peter Parker/Spiderman in Marc Webb’s upcoming 3D Spider-Man reboot. Garfield was among the list of final contenders along with Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman, Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Michael Angarano, and Josh Hutcherson. This casting decision gets two big thumbs up from me, Garfield is a class act, he was fantastic in Boy A, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Lions For Lambs. Garfield is going to get a lot more exposure later this year when he’s seen in David Fincher’s Facebook movie The Social Network and Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go alongside Carey Mulligan. With this casting decision and the fact that Marc Webb is directing, I’m actually looking forward to this reboot. Marc Webb directed (500) Days Of Summer, a film I really enjoyed– a HUUUUUGGGGE achievement considering my devout hatred of romantic comedies. One thing that does baffle me about this decision is that I thought that they were looking for a High School Spiderman, Garfield is 26……….he look’s kind of young I guess.
“Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker,” says Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures.
On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.” Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Facebook, the hotbed of catching up with friends, procrastination and stalking has a film based around it’s inception – The Social Network. Over the weekend this bold poster for David Fincher upcoming film was released online. I love the poster and I’m a huge David Fincher fan so this already has my money. I’m really intrigued to see how this film pan’s out. Jesse Eisenberg, the man seen in the poster, will play Facebook CEO Zuckerberg, while Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook’s founding president; and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg over money. Look out for the trailer in the coming weeks.
Johnny Depp has not aged a day, I’ve come to the conclusion he’s either using the ‘brotox’, or more likely he’s sold his soul to the devil for everlasting youth. The Rum Diary is an upcoming film based on the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. The film is directed by Bruce Robinson and stars Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Giovanni Ribisi and Amber Heard. Johnny Depp play’s ‘Paul Kemp a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction. ‘ The Rum Diary is set for release this September.
When they don’t follow the clichés, I’m a sucker for these ‘inspirational, based on a true story’ type flicks, they really showcase what can be made possible through determination. Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence and like no other genre of film they highlight the best and worst sides of human nature. I’m a massive fan of Sam Rockwell, he sit’s comfortably in my top 5 actors working today. I really hope he gets some awards season love for this, he was robbed last year for Moon *wildly waves fist*. Conviction hit’s US cinemas October 15th. Not too sure on a UK release date yet.
CONVICTION is the inspirational true story of a sister’s unwavering devotion to her brother. When Betty Anne Waters’ (two-time Academy® Award winner Hilary Swank) older brother Kenny (Sam Rockwell) is arrested for murder and sentenced to life in 1983, Betty Anne, a Massachusetts wife and mother of two, dedicates her life to overturning the murder conviction. Convinced that her brother is innocent, Betty Anne puts herself through high school, college and, finally, law school in an 18 year quest to free Kenny. With the help of best friend Abra Rice (Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver), Betty Anne pours through suspicious evidence mounted by small town cop Nancy Taylor (Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo), meticulously retracing the steps that led to Kenny’s arrest. Belief in her brother – and her quest for the truth – pushes Betty Anne and her team to uncover the facts and utilize DNA evidence with the hope of exonerating Kenny.
It look’s like we’re in for a corker with this film. You can really tell director Anton Corbijn is an accomplished photographer, the film looks so stylish. George Clooney always helps a film win style points, he’s pretty much the most likeable and stylish guy on earth, which when you consider the fact that he was the worst Batman in cinema history (yes even worse than Val Kilmer) and more annoyingly that your Mum, Sister, Aunt, Girlfriend, Wife, Grandma and Dog fancies him, his likeability is an astounding achievement!

Cyrus is a film I’ve been keeping my eye on. It looks like it will give me a good chuckle and I really like the cast (John C Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill). It also helps that the film has received some glowing reviews from the country they call football ’soccer’. Also just to point out Marisa Tomei is the women of my when I become middle aged dreams. Check out the synopsis and trailer below. Cyrus will be hitting UK cinemas this Autumn.
With John’s social life at a standstill and his ex-wife about to get remarried, a down on his luck divorcee finally meets the woman of his dreams, only to discover she has another man in her life – her son. Written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass, the iconoclastic filmmaking team behind Sundance Film Festival favorite THE PUFFY CHAIR, CYRUS takes an insightful, funny and sometimes heartbreaking look at love and family in contemporary Los Angeles. Still single seven years after the breakup of his marriage, John (John C. Reilly) has all but given up on romance. But at the urging of his ex-wife and best friend Jamie (Catherine Keener), John grudgingly agrees to join her and her fiancé Tim (Matt Walsh) at a party. To his and everyone else’s surprise, he actually manages to meet someone: the gorgeous and spirited Molly (Marisa Tomei).
Their chemistry is immediate. The relationship takes off quickly but Molly is oddly reluctant to take the relationship beyond John’s house. Perplexed, he follows her home & discovers the other man in Molly’s life: her son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill). A 21-year-old new age musician, Cyrus is his mom’s best friend & shares an unconventional relationship with her. Cyrus will go to any lengths to protect Molly & is definitely not ready to share her with anyone, especially John. Before long, the two are locked in a battle of wits for the woman they both love – & it appears only one man can be left standing when it’s over.
Using the innovative improvisational techniques that have earned them critical accolades & a devoted following Jay Duplass & Mark Duplass enter the mainstream with a touching, original story that blends humor & heartbreak, much like life itself. Cyrus stars John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei, Catherine Keener, Matt Walsh and is directed by Jay and Mark Duplass
Michael Bay sodomized my memories of Transformers, I really hope director Raja Gosnell doesn’t do the same with The Smurfs, I used to love the cartoon! The image above features our first look at the computer generated Smurfs: Grouchy, Papa and Clumsy, in Times Square New York City. Look out for the trailer on Thursday. Check out the teaser trailer below
USA Today reveals how the film begins: The opening starts off in the Middle Ages, Gargamel discovers the Smurfs’ magical village and scatters them into the woods. Clumsy goes the wrong way into a forbidden grotto where a few other Smurfs follow, and because it’s a blue moon, there’s a magical portal that transports them to Central Park. Yeah, doesn’t make much sense… And instead of trying to eat the Smurfs, the movie Gargamel “simply wants to capture the Smurfs to serve as charms, whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful — and dangerous.” The Smurfs is directed by Raja Gosnell and has a voice cast which includes Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Hank Azaria, Alan Cumming, George Lopez, Jeff Foxworthy and Paul Reubens.
The trailer for Mark Romanek’s highly anticipated film, “Never Let Me Go” has hit the interwebs and it looks like a cracker! The film is based on Kauzo Ishiguro’s novel of the same name, which as the trailer discreetly points out is apparently ‘the novel of the decade – Time Magazine’. This looks like certain Oscar bait. Never Let Me Go is Romanek’s fist film since 2002’s One Hour Photo, since then he’s had a couple films collapse around him – he was set to direct The Wolfman but left due to creative differences. Check out the synopsis and trailer below.
