The Latino Review are reporting that Oscar-winning ’12 Years A Slave‘ actress Lupita Nyong’o has been reading for a ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ role for over the past month, and she’s said to be extremely close to signing onto the movie. The outlet add that the part Nyong’o has been reading for is a major female role and doesn’t seem to be tied into the family lines from Episodes 4-6. They also write this interesting nugget, “From what I heard, Lupita might be going up for a sith!”
Sources say that Lupita Nyong’o met with J.J. Abrams only a few weeks ago, just before the Academy Awards where she took home the Best Supporting Actress statuette for her incredible performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s Best Picture winning drama. THR are doubling down on the Latino Review’s report, and they also say that she’s in the running for a role in ‘The Whole Truth,’ a courtroom drama starring Daniel Craig.
At this point it seems that approximately 1823798 actors have been linked to ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ in some capacity. And while there’s been no official casting announcements to date, the likes of Michael Fassender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jesse Plemons, Adam Driver, Hugo Weaving, Michael B. Today you can add a number of new names to that list, as Variety are reporting that Ed Speleers (Downtown Abbey), John Boyega (Attack the Block), the previously linked Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher are among the men J.J. Abrams is eyeing for the lead role. Though some insiders warn the search is still ongoing, multiple sources confirm to the outlet these actors have moved to the top of the list in recent weeks. Last month Variety reported that Adam Driver is close to signing on to play the villain in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic ‘Star Wars’ villain Darth Vader.
Variety bring word that Adam Drives is close to signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic ‘Star Wars’ villain Darth Vader. If Driver does indeed sign on for the role, he would be the first cast member to be revealed for Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm’s highly-anticipated ‘Star Wars’ installment, which will open in theaters on December 18th, 2015. The big-budget tentpole is scheduled to shoot at London’s Pinewood Studios in April. Additional cast members will likely be announced in the next month. ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ will continue the Jedi saga where ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’ left off.
Adam Driver’s name had been rumored during the casting process, but in recent weeks he’s reportedly become Disney and Lucasfilms’ top choice to play the main villain. The delay in making a decision was due to scheduling issues with ‘Star Wars’ and his HBO show ‘Girls.’ Sources say it’s not just Season 4 that was the hangup, but also future seasons, since future ‘Star Wars’ installments could also coincide with upcoming seasons of the HBO Lena Dunham comedy. Variety add that Disney was also rumored to be looking at Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving for the villain role.
