Ghostbusters 3 Waiting On Bill Murray’s Approval Of The Script?
Jan 12th

According to Deadline Director Ivan Reitman and Sony Pictures have just sent the Ghostbusters 3 script to Bill Murray, understandably Sony won’t be signing off on the budget until Murray is committed:
“Reitman and Sony Pictures have no idea if the mercurial Murray will smile on the script they’ve just sent him. Without Murray, the studio absolutely will not make the film, which gives an extraordinary amount of leverage to a quirky actor who leaves financiers sweating until the moment he shows up on the set.
This is too big a project to play games. “The studio won’t even think about forward on a $150 million film unless Bill has a closed deal and a commitment,” said an insider. “It’s too huge a risk to do any meaningful prep, hoping he shows up.”
Until I’m sitting in a cinema watching this film with a big tub of popcorn and sipping on a medium sized Pepsi Max, Ghostbusters 3 will forever have a release date of the 32nd of Nevuary 2000andnever for me. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more updates about this flick in the coming weeks.

Until I’m sitting in a cinema watching this film with a big tub of popcorn and sipping on a medium sized Pepsi Max, Ghostbusters 3 will forever have a release date of the 32nd of Nevuary 2000andnever.
That being said according to Bloody Disgusting reader ‘Jonas,‘ Ghostbusters 3 producer/writer/star Dan Aykroyd was on WGN Radio Chicago and confirmed some of the casting rumours that had been circling the web. He reportedly said that they are open to finding some fresh faces, adding that Bill Hader, Eliza Dushku and Anna Faris have been mentioned as “strong possibilities”. More importantly he also confirmed that both Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver are returning.
Bill Murray In Full Peter Venkman Ghostbusters Uniform And Michael J. Fox & Christopher Lloyd Reuniting At The 2010 Scream Awards
Oct 18th
Bill Murray is truly a king… nay a GOD amongst men! Over the weekend Murray accepted the award for “Best Horror Movie” at the 2010 Scream Awards on behalf of Zombieland wearing his full Peter Venkman Ghostbusters uniform. With all the buzz building up for Ghostbusters 3 I’m sure Murray got a real kick out of teasing everyone! The Scream Awards also paid tribute to the 25th Anniversary of Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd and Elisabeth Shue reuniting on stage with the iconic DeLorean. Spike’s 2010 Scream Awards will be broadcast October 19th in the US. From this Associated Press article the awards ceremony sounds like it gets two EMPHATIC thumbs up of approval!
Sigourney Weaver emerged from a giant brain-shaped pod to accept “Heroine” honors from James Cameron. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd got a standing ovation as they reunited with a DeLorean car to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “Back to the Future.” Jimmy Kimmel honored the cast of “Lost” with a special farewell in front of a flaming piece of fuselage.
Perhaps hinting at next year’s winners were exclusive previews of a new crop of horror and fantasy films. Wes Craven, Neve Campbell, Emma Roberts and David Arquette presented footage from “Scream 4.” The stars of “Paranormal Activity” and “The Walking Dead” also presented never-before-seen clips. Sir Anthony Hopkins introduced a look at “The Rite.” There was also a peek at the latest “Harry Potter” film.
But the most anticipated movie, according to Spike viewers, was “Green Lantern.” Stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively appeared together to accept the night’s final prize.
Dan Ayrkroyd Gives Some Information About The Endless Saga Of Ghostbusters 3
Oct 8th

While Dan Ayrkroyd has been doing the promotional rounds for his new Crystal Head Vodka (yes I’m serious), he sat down with Vanity Fair and spoke a little about the eternal saga of Ghostbusters 3. In the interview Ayrkroyd reveals that he has taken over writing duties from The Office (US) writer/producers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg – the pair who Bill Murray recently gave some thumbs down worthy comments about in an interview with GQ Magazine. Check out what Akyroyd says in reaction to Murray’s comments and his thoughts on Ghostbusters 3.
“I think he was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two—Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, [writer-producers of The Office]—wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it. We have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.”
”Look, Hollywood is in love with any kind of nostalgia that can prove itself to be commercial. But it has to evolve. Now [in Ghostbusters 3] my character’s eyesight is shot, I got a bad knee, a bad hip—I can’t drive that caddy anymore or lift that Psychotron Accelerator anymore, it’s too heavy. We need young legs, new minds—new Ghostbusters; so I’m in essence passing the torch to the new regime, and you know what? That’s totally okay with me.”
I really like what Aykroyd had to say in this interview, it’s intilled in me a lot more optimism about the potential Ghostbusters 3 movie. I never felt at ease with new screenwriters taking over writing duties from Aykroyd and Ramis, the pair who’s idea the whole franchise was in the first place. Also to point out I’ve got so much strictly heterosexual love for Bill Murray, he doesn’t give a flying fudge muffins, he just says it how it is. I still can’t see this film being made in the next 24877 decades though, no matter what Aykroyd says!
Bill Murray Gives His Thoughts On A Ghostbusters 3
Mar 2nd
Bill Murray cracks me up, he’s so honest it comes across that he doesn’t give a sh*t, I really get the feeling he just wants to play golf, drink and do a film every now and then when he feels like it, I can respect that. From this recent interview with David Letterman he gives a an insight into his thoughts on a 3rd Ghostbusters movie, it doesn’t sound good for the people looking forward to this. He says the idea of making a 3rd movie is ‘just crazy talk’ and his ‘nightmare’ and also that he told the producers he would only do it ‘if they kill me off in the first reel I’ll do it, so now they’ve figured out a way to kill me off in the first reel’. One positive from a fan point of view is that he says making the video game was a lot fun. Enough of me writing about it, check it out for yourself below, he tells a pretty funny story at the end. I still think we’ll see a new Ghostbusters film late 2011 or 2012 for some reason.
Ghostbusters 3 Update
Oct 30th

At the London Film Festival I attended the press conference for Chloe (Atom Egoyen’s new film starring Liam Neeson, Julian Moore and Amanda Seyfried) attending the press conference were Egoyen, Moore, Seyfried and the producer Ivan Reitman – director and producer of the Ghostbusters movies. Ivan gave us a nice little update on the progress of Ghostbusters 3.
‘I produced and directed the first two, I would feel very weird to give it up to someone else for the third one. The key question is can we get a script that best honours particularly the first movie, its somehow held on after over 25 years, people respond to it in a remarkable way. The Ghostbusters game came out a year ago which turned out to be the 2nd most popular game in the world, it reminded us that wow people really love these characters, Sony has been desperate for another sequel, they really hired these writers on there own, slowly Harold Ramis, Dan Ayckroyd and I have got on board, I’ve been meeting now regularly with the writers trying to get a draft everyone can sign off on and that’s where we are. Probably in the Ten or more years since the last one this is probably the best shot we’ve had at it’
