Alcon Entertainment Say Harrison Ford Is Not In Talks For Ridley Scott’s New ‘Blade Runner’ Movie
Feb 7th
Following this past weekends news that Harrison Ford has entered early talks to reprise his role in Ridley Scott’s prequel/sequel to his seminal sci-fi epic ‘Blade Runner.’ Andrew Kosove of producer/financier Alcon Entertainment has told Deadline that this rumour is false: “It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner. To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.”
Kosove explained that this new ‘Blade Runner’ movie will be more in the vein of Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus,’ in that it’s only loosely connected to the original, or set in the same universe: “It’s like asking if we’re going to make the sky red or blue, there has been no discussion about it. What Ridley does in Prometheus is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie.”
The producer did seem to leave the option open for Harrison Ford to return as Decker. When asked point blank if Ford could resurface, Kosove said: “In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could. But I think it is quite unlikely.”
Harrison Ford In Early Talks To Join Ridley Scott’s New ‘Blade Runner’
Feb 4th
As I’m sure you’re aware, Warner Bros-based production company Alcon Entertainment recently purchased the rights to make prequels/sequels to director Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi epic ‘Blade Runner.’ Early word was that Scott would be the only returning alumni, that the plan was for a completely fresh reboot. However, somewhat surprisingly, Twitch are reporting that Harrison Ford has entered into early talks to join the new ‘Blade Runner.’ I would usually take this sort news with a GIGANTIC grain of salt, yet I have to consider that Twitch are generally on the money with their reports.
I’m shamefully on the fence about a new ‘Blade Runner’ movie. One of the beauties of ‘Blade Runner’ is it’s ambiguity, how much it asks of it’s audience. The fact that until this very day, nearly 30 years after the films release, there’s still so much aspects of it being debated. On the other hand I would love to see more of the ‘Blade Runner’ world, there’s so much more to explore, especially with Decker – Harrison Ford’s character.
‘Blade Runner’ was loosely based on the Philip K. Dick science fiction novel, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The novel received three “authorized” sequels, written by Philip K. Dick’s friend K.W. Jeter, which were entitled “The Edge of Human,” “Replicant Night” and “Eye and Talon.” They continue the story of Rick Deckard and attempt to resolve many of the differences between the novel and the film. Following the filming of ‘Blade Runner,’ the first of Philip K. Dick’s works to be adapted into a film, many other of Dick’s works were likewise adapted, including ‘Total Recall,’ ‘A Scanner Darkly,’ ‘Minority Report,’ ‘Paycheck,’ and the recent ‘The Adjustment Bureau,’ among others.

Check out what Daniel Craig had to say about the film below.
What was it like preparing for this role?
Daniel Craig: I really just watched as many Westerns as I could. I watched a lot of John Wayne ones, but my personal favourite ones are the 70’s ones, things like ’Little Big Man’ – the so called dirty Westerns, ones that are a little bit more reality based. But obviously ‘Butch and the Sundance Kid’ is a big favourite of mine. Director Jon Favreau and I had these great chats, it helped me a great deal because obviously I have to be an American in the film – so the less I said the better (laughs). I tried to let everyone else do the talking and I do the action, really that’s how I base my character, very much on the silence of a Clint Eastwood ‘man with no name.’

For the most part, both Westerns and Sci-Fi have existed quite separately for some time now, what is it about the genre mash-up that makes it fresh for you?
Olivia Wilde: What they have in common, Westerns and Sci-Fi, it’s the idea of the unknown, battling the unknown. People who are sort of pioneers. Westerns are often settlers who have gone out west, that are very brave people for wondering out into this unknown territory – that’s the same with Sci-Fi too, people exploring and coming up against unknown adversaries, that‘s what binds them together. For me it makes sense they come together, but it has to be done with the right technique. I think that is why it was important to have Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer on board, they REALLY know film, they really know how to bring these separate genres to their best quality – and also to meld them together. Jon Favreau is a master of tone, he knows how to make it consistent, and also to keep it grounded it reality.
