MTV had a chinwag with Mark Ruffalo at last nights 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards and talked briefly about the actors role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Marvel’s forthcoming ‘The Avengers’ movie, dishing some details regarding his motion-captured Hulk.
“It’s cool, it’s gonna be great. The script is a nice combination of funny and was very in Joss Whedon’s wheelhouse. And I got to see the maquette of the Hulk yesterday in full scope and it’s awesome. Just like me. We’re going out of our way to…… first of all, I’m the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk. And so, all the features are mine, they’re just really big.”

Mark Ruffalo Talks About Playing A Motion Captured Hulk In The Avengers
Sep 25th
Vulture recently had a quick chit chat with Mark Ruffalo to talk about his role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Marvel’s forthcoming The Avengers movie. I know a lot of people are still soured by his appointment due to the way Marvel got rid of Ed Norton – myself included. However to be fair to Ruffalo he’s a quality actor who I’m sure will be great in the role. What he had to say to Vulture sounds pretty awesome:
“I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI. They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.”
Ruffalo goes on to say that he’s gonna try and stay closer to Bill Bixby’s version of the Hulk from The Incredible Hulk TV series:
“I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one. I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and f*cks everything up.”
The Avengers will be directed by Joss Whedon and is set to star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. The Avengers hits cinemas May 4th, 2012.
Edward Norton Replies To All This Marvel/The Hulk Malarky
Jul 12th
After Kevin Feige of Marvel pulled a d*ck move released a pretty unprofessional statement regarding Edward Norton getting dropped from playing The Hulk in the new Avengers movie, Norton’s agent Brian Swardstrom replied yesterday defending his client, and now today Edward Norton has released his own statement via his facebook page. Norton definitely took the high road, his statement is 100% class. Kevin Feige must have felt like a right prat reading it. Check out the statement below.
Also fresh from the rumor mill, Joaquin Phoenix – an actor I greatly admire- is apparently in talks to play The Hulk/Bruce Banner. I’m sure we’ll get some cement casting news at Comic Con.
Edward Norton’s Agent Hits Back At Marvel
Jul 12th

The break up between Marvel and Edward Norton is starting to become ugly. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s statement (which you can read here) had a few sly jabs at Edward Norton, for example – “Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.” For me that’s not the most classy and professional thing to put out in a statement. Norton’s agent Brian Swardstrom took offence and has hit back by issuing the following statement, again via HitFix. Swardstrom isn’t playing about…………..someone needs a breakup buddy!
‘This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light. Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast. Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith. This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.
We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige’s mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his. Feige’s statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory. Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel’s fans.
