Amina Wolf has drawn this top-notch ‘The Hobbit’ piece centering on the Wizards of the trilogy, Ian McKellan’s Gandolf the Grey, Christopher Lee as Saruman the White, and Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown, showing the three wizards in – some sort of – harmony. The release schedule for the final two ‘The Hobbit’ movies is as follows: ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ arrives in cinemas on December 13th; while ’The Hobbit: There and Back Again’ concludes the trilogy on December 17th, 2014. Last month Jackson took to his official Facebook page to reveal a 6-minute excerpt of the live event he hosted for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,’ providing us with a first official look at the film. Look out for the film’s first trailer next month with the release of ‘Man of Steel.’

With ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ arriving on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack and 2-Disc DVD Special Edition on March 19th in US (the Peter Jackson-helmed film is available on home release from April 8th in the UK), Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has created these stellar infographic for the film, taking a look at some of the characters living in Middle-earth (check it out in full below).
The infographic highlights the Hobbits Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood); the Wizards Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Saruman the White (Christopher Lee) and Radagast the Brown (Sylvester McCoy); the Elves Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Galadriel (Cate Blanchett); and of course the Dwarves Nori (Jed Brophy), Fili (Dean O’Gorman), Dori (Mark Hadlow), Bofur (James Nesbitt), Gloin (Peter Hambleton), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Balin (Ken Stott), Oin (John Callen), Bombur (Stephen Hunter), Bifur (William Kircher), Ori (Adam Brown), Kili (Aidan Turner) and Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage).
‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Becomes The 15th Film To Earn $1 Billion In Global Ticket Sales

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Peter Jackson’s ’The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ has reached the colossal $1 billion plateau, making it only the 15th film in history to hit $1 billion in global ticket sales, not accounting for inflation. Propelled by China, the New Line and MGM epic crossed the milestone over the weekend. It’s the second Jackson film after ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ ($1.12 billion). As of today, ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ has grossed $301.1 million in North America and just shy of $700 million internationally. The film, the first in a trilogy, has grossed roughly $37.3 million in its first 10 days of play in China, the movie’s final major market. The top foreign markets for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ are as follows: Germany ($90 million), followed by the UK ($84.3 million), France ($44.9 million), Australia ($44.3 million) and Russia ($43.8 million).
“We could not be more proud to have reached reached this amazing benchmark. Together with our partners at MGM and New Line, everyone at Warner Bros. congratulates Peter Jackson and his entire cast and crew on the extraordinary success of this film,” said Warners president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman. Added Warners president of international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg: “From Berlin to Beijing, it is so gratifying to see how the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journsey has been such an event with audiences around the world. It’s an exciting bellwether as we move toward the release of the second film in the trilogy.”

Yesterday I posted Euclase’s fantastic selection of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ digital portraits focusing on the likes of Richard Armitage’s Thorin Oakenshield, Martin Freeman’s Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellen’s Gandalf the Grey, Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel, Graham McTavish’s Dwalin, Dean O’Gorman’s Fíli, and Aidan Turner’s Kíli. Today Euclase has unveiled this brilliant piece centering on Richard Armitage’s Thorin alongside Red Fraggle from ‘Fraggle Rock.’ This is the description Euclase provided with the pic: “I thought it might be nice if, instead of a dragon, the Dwarves found Fraggles in their mountain. With the Oscars taking place this Sunday, Weta Digital has premiered these “The Goblin Caverns” and “Creating Rivendell” featurettes for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ providing us with a behind-the-scenes look at their incredible visual effects work on the film.
