Elijah Wood Confirmed To Reprise The Role Of Frodo Baggins In ‘The Hobbit’
Jan 8th
Elijah Wood has been confirmed to reprise the role of Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s much anticipated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ Jackson, director of all three Lord of the Rings films, will be helming the two movies back-to-back for a 2012 and 2013 release. Theonering have got the scoop on what capacity Frodo will be featured: *warning contains spoilers*
‘As readers of “The Hobbit” know, the tale of “The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit or There and Back Again,” are contained in the fictional “Red Book of Westmarch.” In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the books are shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch — hence the book’s title.) The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers to learn the tale of ‘The Hobbit’ with a familiar Frodo getting the tale as well.’
To date other actors on board for the movie include Martin Freeman, Graham McTavish, Aidan Turner, Rob Kazinsky, Mark Hadlow, Adam Brown, John Callen, Peter Hambleton, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen. Rumoured to be making their way to middle earth are Andy Serkis returning as Gollum, Leonard Nimoy, Michael Fassbender and Brian Blessed – who’s voice is the epitome of the word ‘bellowing’.
International Poster For ‘The Green Hornet’ – Starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou & Christoph Waltz
Jan 7th
Sony have unveiled this explosive new international poster for the upcoming superhero movie ‘The Green Hornet’. From what I’ve seen from the trailers and the various clips this looks like a blast, both Seth Rogen and Jay Chou look great in the two lead roles. The film co-stars Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour and Tom Wilkinson. The Green Hornet comes to cinemas January 14th, 2011.
Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene – until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. But in order to do this, they decide to become criminals themselves – protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets.
Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato’s clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz), they begin hunting down the man who controls LA’s gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz). But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.
New Trailer, Poster, Quad & Images For John Carpenter’s ‘The Ward’ – Starring Amber Heard
Jan 6th
A new John Carpenter movie to kick off 2011. Yes please! ‘The Ward’ is Carpenter’s first film since 2001′s Ghosts of Mars – fingers crossed it’s infinitely better than that flick. The film stars Amber Heard, Lyndsy Fonseca, Danielle Panabaker, Jared Harris, Mika Boorem and Mamie Gummer. Look out for The Ward in UK cinemas the 21st of January.
John Carpenter’s The Ward, a psychological thriller about a young woman locked in a mysterious mental institution in the 1960s, marks iconic horror master John Carpenter’s first feature film in over seven years.
Kristen (Amber Heard), a beautiful but troubled young woman, finds herself bruised, cut, drugged, and held against her will in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital. She is completely disoriented, with no idea why she was brought to this place and no memory of her life before being admitted. All she knows is that she isn’t safe.
The other patients in the ward—four equally disturbed young women—offer no answers, and Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and frightening sounds. It appears they are not alone. One-by-one, the other girls begin to disappear and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before she, too, becomes a victim. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.
Two New Images From ‘Water For Elephants’ – Starring Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz & Robert Pattinson
Jan 6th
Fox have unveiled these two new images for Francis Lawrence’s (I Am Legend) ‘Water For Elephants.’ The film is based on the acclaimed bestselling novel by Sara Gruen, and stars Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, and that sparkly vampire fella Robert Pattinson. It looks like pretty heart warming stuff. Water For Elephants is released in US cinemas April 15th, and the UK April 22nd.
As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.
First Image From Ruben Fleischer’s ‘30 Minutes or Less’ – Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride & Aziz Ansari
Jan 6th
‘30 Minutes or Less’ is the new action/comedy from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. The film centres on “two wannabe criminals who force a loser pizza delivery man to rob a bank in 30 minutes or less.” 30 Minutes or Less re-teams Fleischer and Jesse Eisenberg who previously joined forces for the thoroughly entertaining Zombieland. 30 Minutes or Less is set for release August 12th and stars Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson and Michael Peña. I expect a top shelf action/comedy!
In the action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less, Nick (Jesse Eisenberg) is a small town pizza delivery guy whose mundane life collides with the big plans of two wanna-be criminal masterminds (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson). The volatile duo kidnaps Nick and forces him to rob a bank. With mere hours to pull off the impossible task, Nick enlists the help of his ex-best friend, Chet (Aziz Ansari). As the clock ticks, the two must deal with the police, hired assassins, flamethrowers, and their own tumultuous relationship.
