After a long hiatus due to the tragic death of star Paul Walker, ‘Fast & Furious 7′ is gearing up to resume shooting. According to THR, Universal Pictures will restart production on or near April 1st, giving the studio and director James Wan ample time to meet its rescheduled April 10th, 2015 release date. The remainder of the shoot will last from six to eight weeks, according to insiders. Cast and crew will be called back to Atlanta, where filming had been penciled in to resume after Thanksgiving.
‘Fast & Furious 7′ was about halfway finished when Paul Walker was killed in a car crash, requiring its release date to be scrapped and James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal to look over existing footage and tweak the script accordingly. ‘Fast & Furious 7’ also stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Lucas Black, Ludacris and Jordana Brewster, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham and Djimon Hounsou.
In the wake of the tragic death of leading man Paul Walker late last year, THR bring word that director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal Pictures will tweak the ‘Fast & Furious 7′ script and add scenes so footage of Walker’s Brian O’Conner character can still be used – but the franchise can continue. Sources tell THR that Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, will not be killed off in the film, which is now set for release on April 10th, 2015.
Instead, the plan is to “retire” the character in a way that Universal Pictures hopes will satisfy fans of the franchise and make use of the existing footage of Walker, who died about halfway through the ‘Fast & Furious 7′ shoot. In the weeks after the tragedy, director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Universal’s lead executive on the films, pored over the footage Wan had shot. The trio then devised a plan to tweak the existing script so that Walker would remain a part of the story but could be written out, allowing the franchise to continue without him. The changes will require some additional scenes to be written and shot, but the eight-month delay of release provides plenty of time.
Following the tragic death of Paul Walker on November 30th, Universal Pictures issued the statement on the status of ‘Fast & Furious 7.’ “Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker.”
Today, Vin Diesel has confirmed that the release date for ‘Fast & Furious 7′ has been moved back from July 11th, 2014 to April 10th, 2015. Diesel also posted the above image on Facebook and included the message:

Behind-The-Scenes ‘Homefront’ Featurette – Starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder & Kate Bosworth
Open Road Films has sent over this behind-the-scenes featurette for the action thriller ‘Homefront,’ which is directed by Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury, Don’t Say A Word) from a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone and based on the book by Chuck Logan. Starring Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, Clancy Brown, Frank Grillo and Rachelle Lefevre, ’Homefront’ will arrive in cinemas on November 27th.
‘Homefront’ follows Phil Broker (Jason Statham), a widowed ex-DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town hoping to escape his past. However, he finds the town to be overrun with violence, drug traffickers and an evil meth magnate named Gator (James Franco). To save his endangered family, retribution is now the only thing Broker seeks.
According to Deadline, Jason Statham and his manager and producing partner Steve Chasman have acquired rights to the J.J. Connolly novel ‘Viva La Madness,’ Connolly’s follow-up novel to ‘Layer Cake.’ Just as he did with the Matthew Vaughn-directed film that starred Daniel Craig, Connolly again is turning his novel into a script. Connolly never names his chief protagonist anti-hero, but Statham will take on the nameless lead role (played by Craig in the 2004 film).
‘Viva La Madness’ is the second film for Jason Statham and Steve Chasman under the SJ Pictures banner. They recently wrapped the Simon West-directed ‘Heat,’ which William Goldman adapted his novel, with Statham starring with Sofia Vergara, Milo Ventimiglia and Stanley Tucci. Statham also wrapped ‘The Expendables 3′ and is shooting ‘Fast & Furious 7.’ He next stars with James Franco and Kate Bosworth in ‘Homefront.’
